Motorcycles are great!

Just got back from my midnight run. No big deal, only 12 miles, but still...it's an 1100EZ.

Redlined once, missed second once. Hit 7 or 8k rpm a few times, 85 or 90 mph a couple of times, gave the finger to some unmarked highway patrol officers.

When your bike is running good, it's a beautiful thing. It's like a friggin' drug. Whatever happens, I can still take a ride.

You'll have to forgive my gushiness, this is my first spring in 25 years on two wheels. I'll stop riding when they pry my cold, dead hand from the throttle.
1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

I'm going to start a PM-based betting pool with the main bet being what date you have your first serious crash, and the primary side bet being whether it's caused by improper maintenance or riding stupidity.

The second side bet can be whether you're killed, permanently crippled, or just laid up for a while.

No, because in light of the judgment you've illustrated in past threads (and this one), I wouldn't be surprised if you'd purposely wreck to collect an $80 pot.

Geez guys... All he did was go for a ride. It would be much more productive to suggest some safety tips.
Having said that, put me down for 20 bucks....

Although I cannot even remember the last time that a ride did not involve going way over 80 (kilometers of course ), I don't do it with a tight/old chain, bad general maintenance, etc.
I doubt seriously that he might encounter too (< note the correct spelling that challenges so many forum members ) many deer in NYC at night or during daylight hours.
Put me down for $100.

Maybe more deer there than you think:

The Parks Department is spending thousands of dollars to count deer prancing through city parks. The $19,000 census — the first of its kind — will monitor deer at four parks in the Bron…

The census will monitor deer at four parks in the Bronx and 12 in Staten Island. While some parks advocates wonder why the city is spending thousands of dollars on deer, others say the animals frequently travel down from upstate New York, and it's something the city should keep an eye on.

No deer, just a lot of 20-somethings hanging around bars and clubs.

If anything, my chain is now too loose. Occasional clanking at bumps and quick momentum changes.

Don't be overly concerned (or waste too much money), I'll very shortly have two brand new sprockets and a brand new (630) chain professionally installed. Just waiting for my 1150 oil cooler and filter cover to arrive from Joe, then I'll have Frank from PowerHouse (http://www.fastcycles.com/) do all the work.

PS What other "bad general maintenance" do you know about on my Suzi? I'll have Frank take care of it.

Not too many deer around here which is odd considering how close to the city their habitat is. Lots of bear wander in though, the north side borders mountains. Almost hit one when I was a kid. He froze and so did I. Fortunately I woke up first.....

I think everyone here occasionally takes their bike for a ride at a speed at which the consequences can be really bad if something breaks or goes wrong. Not a good idea to make it a habit though. Also, running 80 mph late at night through a area with a lot of bars doesn't seem like a good idea to me. LOL

The bars were on the streets with stop lights every block. Only took her up to speed on the boulevard where everyone used to drag race. It was deserted.

I take it you don't agree with my decision to buy a used chain to hold me over for two weeks?

I know about caveat emptor, but what does that say about the guy (chef1386) who sold me the chain?
