How many bikes have you owned ?

Since you started riding , how many bikes have you owned over the years ?

If over 10-30 bikes what was your favorite or the one's you would like to have back again ?

This topic just came to mind , I'll go to Word document and type up what I have owned and post .

11 Bikes over the last 21 years: (in order of ownership) XS650, GL500, VT500, PC800, FLHT, ZX600R, GL1500, CM400T, VFR800fi, GS1100GK & GS850G. Presently own only the last two bikes on the list, my GS1100GK and GS850G. My favorite would be really hard to pick, they are kind of like children! The best would be the GL1500, or PC800. My favorite would be a tie between the VFR800fi and the FHLT. Two different types of bikes. Different types of riding. What would I want if I could have it now? I seen a nice looking BMW boxer touring cruiser. A R1200 something?? It looks like a Harley Davidson Electra Glide. BatWing fairing, side and top hard bags and a real comfortable seating. I need to research it. I just thought it looked sharp. Tomorrow I will want something else! I would not like one of my old bikes back, I always look for something new and different, at lest to me. I discovered the GS's two years ago. The great UJM that I have overlooked in 20 years of riding. Next thing would be something I have not had yet. BMW, or Motor Guzzie maybe? A old FJ1200? A GS1100E?

          1. Homemade minibike
          2. '69 Yamaha YCS1C street scrambler, twin cylinder, 180cc, two stroke
          3. '72 Yamaha XS2 650cc, 4stroke, twin
          4. '68 BSA B-25 Starfire 250cc, 4 stroke, single

          6. '80 GS 550L, 549cc in line 4
          7. '86 Kawasaki Concours 999cc in line 4

Still have all except 2 and 5.

couple of bikes used as 'trade goods' 400cc Honda something or other traded for a CB-450 engine. And a CB500 twin Honda that I ended selling for about a hundred bucks or so (that was a mistake!).

That's the one. XS2 was the first year for the electric starter and the disc brake. The XS1 and XS1-B used kickstart only and had drums up front.

Homemade Mini bikes in 9/th grade, and homemade go kart frames.

                1972 Honda SL350
                1973 Suzuki GT750, with 74 internals and serious suspension(for it's day)
1976 RE-5 weird sound, fun to ride, VERY different
1978? GS550 great bike, toured all over the Appalachians on it.

Big gap in time.......until the 1980 GS1000S showed up
I've had it over 15 years now. Great motor, great frame, serious suspension and updates done.I'll NEVER sell this bike.

This past May found a 1982 GS1100E with low miles.
Great motor, suspension needed work, it's been done.
Fun bike, at least the motor is fun.
It'll be for sale in the spring to finance the restore of the S

Of my favorites..The S is my favorite.
Different than most others. Not a lot of them around, so it's different in that respect. Plus it's the one I've owned the longest and it just fits.
It's a Zen thing, we think and we do it.

The GT750 isn't far behind. After doing the suspension upgrades, front end and rear end. Getting good Dunlops, this was back in 74-76, tires have come a long way, it handled great.
Took my first "long" trip of 425 miles one way to New Brunswick Canada
on that bike. Loved every minute. Did about 1500 miles in a week.

The RE-5 never ridden anything like it since. Weird that the motor just kept spinning, power felt linear, decent brakes and the frame was good for the time. This was one of the first GS frames Suzuki built.
Just to expensive to run and....the tranny smoked one day while......
ok ok I was drag racing it. Missed 2/nd gear, shered about 6 teeth off the gear, hit 3/rd lit the tire and kept going

But the S will never leave me, or me leave it.
                Keith

My first bike was a Yamaha XS650, brown like the one in the picture you had. I think mine was a 73. I paid $400 for it in 82 and sold it in 85. It seemed pretty big for a first bike, but I grew riding other people's dirt bikes on gravel roads and farm fields. My next bike was a early 80's imported GL500. I liked that bike better. Shaft drive, water cooled and seemed smoother and more powerfull.
