Dirt Roads suitable for Dual sports around Los Angeles

    Anybody got any ideas...

I'm looking to get out on a day trip with my KLR. Nothing too extreme to start with as I'll have a couple of BMW's with me & I found out in Baja how unstable they are...

I did get a pretty nice route off a KLR site in the end. Can share details if anyone wants it.
The BMW's seem to struggle again (it's all down to the rider of course )

Saw a rattle snake on the path on the way back down - first time I've seen one in the wild

I would like to know where you went. I used to ride around on fire roads and dirt roads around Lake Elsinore and Santiago Peak in the 70s and 80s. I'm not sure how much of that was legal...

405 N > turns into the 5 FWY just past San Fernando.
continue on 5 for about 10 miles or so,
EXIT Lake Hughes Rd. Make RT.
Continue for about 12 miles (great rd. with nice lake vistas)
The trail is right at about 12.5 miles from the FWY.
so, keep your eyes pealed for the dirt turn off right around
12 miles so you don't miss it. It just looks like a big turn out
on the far end there will be a fire road (6N24)
        ►Click Google Map

That road will take you up and over to San Fransiscito rd.
But at the top of the peak you "can" make a left and that will
take you up in the hills. Great trail.
        ►Click Google Map

        Then from there to here.
        ►Click Google Map

Make a left on Elizebeth Rd and a quarter mile on the
right (the Rock Inn) is one of the best BBQ pulled pork sandwiches you'll ever have.
After that continue down Elizebeth Lake rd to Lake Hughes, make a left
that will take you all the way down to the 5FWY again to complete the loop.

This will be about a 6-7 hour ride for you from where you are coming from
        One of my Default favorites.
Nice twisties and the dirt is mostly hard pack some loose places but not sand.
You'll probably see an occational hiker or other bikes and/or jeeps. So, careful
        on the tight corners.

        Have fun!

This is the route we followed. ONly about 15/16miles offroad. More next time I reckon...

The links to Google won't work but you can get them from the KLR site direct

Hold on Dan... shouldn't you be taking Bajazuki to show those BMW's up again?

            I thought about it....

The temps we had & the speeds we could make through there Bajazuki would have likely overheated.....!

It's still somewhat Baja'd at the moment but I'm currently working on the stock tank to take it back to original street.
It's also getting new intake boots, 1100 swinger, Works Shocks, 1100 Fork legs with some brand new stanchions plus an 1150 rear wheel so I can run a 140/150.
Been toying with the idea of running Avon ST's but the 2.15" front is under the recommended size for their front tyre.... Did think about running an 18" GSXR front wheel on it but I don't think I want the hassle of messing with Speedo's, brakes etc.

Hahaha that would've had them with red faces for sure!

So what will that make it then? Tourzuki? Nah gotta be a better name than that!
