I generally like smaller homey places but when we got to 'The Sprinkle Shack' the grill was already closed so we went down the road to The Chatterbox, a retro-50s sort of burger joint. It's kind of touristy but it's popular and I know my son likes the place. Inside there's all sorts of vintage bric a brac, gas pumps, signs, old records on the wall, a '50s Vette on a stand in the middle of the room (no, and actual 'Vette), a funny car hanging from the ceiling (no, an actual funny car), and even a Yamaha Maxim, probably an '83, on the wall (you guessed it, an actual motorcycle). A bit of an anachronism but I'll allow it ...
Anyway we get two mushroom swiss burgers, which is a treat because we practically never have burgers even at home. The food is NOT cheap here which is no surprise, but it's really good, including good tasty lettuce and tomato, and the mushrooms were very good too (what about you Peggy Sue?). He wanted to eat outside so we did and it was a nice night for it and the old time Rock n Roll was piped outside and we just had a great time out there eating and talking. We pretty much had the whole outside dining area to ourselves cause it was early in the season and late in the evening. He saved one (1) french fry to bring home cause that's how he rolls, and we had a brisk ride home in the dark. It's going to be a good summer I think .
If you're ever passing through Sussex County NJ, and feeling rich, the Chatterbox on Rt 206 is kind of a fun little tourist trap, as long as you avoid it on bike night. I did bike night (Thurs nights) there once, and never again - mostly just testosterone and bravado, and lots of noise.
Oh yeah, here's a link: http://www.chatterboxdrivein.com/
