South East Qld GSR and Katana Australia Ride

We had our big quarterly GSR and KA ride yesterday.

The weather turned out absolutely perfect... blue skies early morning so the sun could finish drying the road out from the day before, but then a little cloud cover in the afternoon to stop us getting too hot. Not bad for the first official day of summer!

We had 12 bikes participate all up with 15 people... two pillions and Val in the chair with John.

We journeyed some roads I know well up through Dayboro, over Mt Mee, Woodford, and up to Kenilworth for a rest stop at the popular Bellbird Cafe.

The roads were almost traffic free so it was a good run and we had the opportunity for some fun twisties without being held up by cages which is always great stuff.

Unfortunately after leaving the Bellbird Cafe we had one minor incident with one of the Jon's Katana having a low side. A few of us had gone ahead to Kenilworth (2 min's up the road) so fortunately by the time we had heard the news and turned back Jon was up and almost uninjured. A sore wrist, fabric burn on one elbow from the jacket, and a bruised and dented pride were all the injuries thankfully! The Kat is mostly cosmetic except for the Dynatek ignition which has seen better days.

Two of the other guys volunteered to get a ute and potentially get the big Kat running again for Jon so once we had ensured everything was sorted and under control we pushed on to Gympie for lunch as one of the Katana guys (Eric) not riding with us had put a BBQ lunch on for us instead of coming along for the ride this time.

Great lunch was had as well as a perve at Eric's big Kat project which is finally coming together and looking very schmick.

From Gympie we started parting ways as some headed straight home, others went north, and the rest of us went for a bit of a loop before heading home.

A top day was had by all and I think Jon was having lots of fun before the off as well. A total of about 430km's for me in the end...

Now for the pic's... the meetup at Samford:

We all suspected Ian was a bit of a Katana fan...

Meet up with the other riders in Woodford:

And Brian brought his Cooley along this time, last time I saw it it was the red colour scheme. Apparently it's just about right for a tear down so the frame can be powder coated etc.:

It was indeed Tim! And yeah you'll have to... next one is next March and will coincide with the Katana Australia State of Origin overnighter in Nambucca heads, so it'll be heading your direction...

Cheers Simon, weather was perfect just like that February ride you were on with us except it was a bit cooler...

Amazingly enough we didn't see a single one all day, I think they were too busy with the rally in the CBD. I would've gone to that if we hadn't had this planned...

Sweet pics! Bunch of nice Kats gathered there. Wish I could see that many here in the U.S. all together.

Cheers guys! We had 5 1100 Kats and 1 750 Popup on the day and I plan on adding to that number myself as soon as I can.

We have had more together at one time but that's still a pretty good turnout.

Rob, as I ride I will post more pic's just to keep you guys going

Great time indeed Greg! Looking forward to seeing your son's bike and no doubt we will catch up at some point.

March 8 2014 is probably the next big ride at this stage.
