Aussies have an inbuilt logistics planner, that probably came from listening to dad chat around the Barbie, (BBQ) about the weekend jaunt "down the road", with the car full of kids and the obligatory wife.
I watched mum freak out when I was 8 years old after dad told mum, a trip to the tropics is planned for the school break, from Brisbane to Cairns and beyond. My best memory was pushing the car off the beach onto a log ramp, whilst a bus and waited his turn, and the high tide was coming in.
How is this bike related? Glad you asked, dad use to make beach buggies for fishing expiditions, and after I got my first trail bike it was loaded onto the buggy and stiff towed behind the car. Across the ferry onto the island with the biggest sand dunes in the southern hemisphere, a bikers paradise.
These trips helped me navigate my way around Australia on a bike with the knowledge that while a reliable vehicle was essential, it wasn't a major, problem if you broke down because there was always a helping hand around the next bend.
Have a quick look at the photo attached, Perth where I live now is the most isolated capital city in the world. And it doesn't surprise me that some locals still haven't travelled interstate or overseas, poor them.
