    2021 double nickle tour

Ok, 2 weeks from today I will be leaving on bucket list adventure. The double nickel tour, I turn 55 in August, it made sense. From home(western ny) heading to skyline drive. Meeting GSScott, riding skyline and the BPR to visit another GRer Doug (Crag Antler) from there, solo to Georgia. Then west through Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma to Colorado to pikes peak. South to Flagstaff and Peoria, north to the Hoover Dam. West to Rancho Santa Margarita California. From there to Death Valley, north to Wendover Utah. Then heading off to Yellowstone. Then to start the eastward leg toward home with stops Sturgis, SD, Goodthunder and Brainerd MN, the UP in Michigan and eventually back where I started 3 weeks prior! And in classic GS style, this adventure will be accomplished on a 1984 GS1100GK. I’m pretty stoked.

The Double Nickel tour, sounds like a great trip! Definitely keep us posted on your adventure.
I'm doing the Double Nickel and a Penny tour leaving East Ohio on June 10th. I'm doing the Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming loop. I'll be in the Yellowstone area around June 16-19th. Maybe our paths will cross.
Good luck on your tour, and definitely keep us posted.

Sounds great and cool that you're doing it on an old GS. GK is probably a bit more appropriate then your 1150....
Keep us posted from the road if possible and safe travels.

Although route from UP to NY is probably not this part of the state. But keep us posted.

I haven’t actually plotted the entire route. Basically doing a series of one day rides. Turned off highways and toll roads on the gps and will pick the route each day. I will be visiting friends and family along the way as well, so I do have some specific destinations in Georgia , Arizona, California, Minnesota and Michigan, the rest is just me enjoying time on the bike.
I haven’t posted a picture on here in years. If someone would tell me the latest and greatest method, I will attempt to post photos along the way.

If you pass near Indiana, holla!

Guessing from the route given, you might pass through northern Indiana. The hilly southern bits are a lot more fun...

Are you getting excited? Are you dotting the "I's" crossing the T's. Are you bringing any spare parts along with you? When I rode my 79 1000e across country, I brought all kinds of spare parts with me. I didn't need any of them. The only problem I had was the speedometer gear stripped out on me. I'm excited for you. You'll meet all kinds of folks especially riding a Vintage motorcycle.

Very cool! I haven't done a longer (over 500 mile) trip since early on in my ownership of the old 1150. On that bike I did a 1400 mile week-long trip around Arizona. I'll be taking the Harley to Cali this year for some beach time. Have fun and stay safe!

Yes, I’m getting excited. Spent my 1 day off this getting the bike ready. Only thing left is a new tach cable. My after work hours will be getting my stuff organized and packed which shouldn’t be a huge issue. Spare parts…. Full set of cables and a R/R, bulbs and fuses, brake pads. Of course a tool kit, zip ties, tire repair kit…
Its not my first rodeo, it is my first cross country west of the Mississippi except very eastern N&S Dakota tho, any suggestions are welcome. I am a little scatter brained trying to remember everything.
I did about a 1800 long weekend in New England on the 1150, had a blast.

I have one of those small battery jumpers that I try to keep with me on trips. It'll start the bike if the battery dies and you can charge phone etc. too.

I have a small jump box charger ready to go, plus a couple patriot power cells and a double USB charging port installed on the bike.

Seems like a good time to leave WNY and head south. 7 day weather forecast says high of 50F Friday. It could snow in the hills, I'm not even kidding.

I'm gonna txt ya cuz I want to ride out and visit before you take off. Haven't seen the GK yet.

Rode out to visit with Andy last nite. Brother is ready to ride and the bike is too. My ride home was sweet. A few small, almost suicidal animals but otherwise a fine night time ride.

Enjoy your trip, keep us posted. (I hope the weather doesn't suck as bad as they're saying...)
