Ever since I got iPhone (5c) (in 2013, I think) I have been transferring photos from the iPhone to computer hard drive using FileExplorer (MyComputer), by hand,
Connect to the iPhone with USB cable, use MyComputer, and look at the iPhone the same as if it were a thumbdrive or something, open the InternalStorage, and then the DCIM directory, and then whatever next directory, then select (Contrl-Click) and copy (Contrl-C) all the files, and then open my Picture directory on my harddrive, open directory I created for the month and then Paste (Contrl-V) all the files.
Could talk about how I organised the directorys on my hard drive, but that is not my point here. I know there are various file managment packages available specific to photos, but that isnot my point here either.
Nor do I care to get into all the monoply of Apple and Google and all the privacy issues and all that.
The situation of accessing the photos on the Iphone with the windows FileExplorer is the aspect of all this that has my attention at the moment.
Over the years it seems that either Apple or maybe microsoft-windows has changed things from time to time, that caused difficultys along the way.
As an example: At one point, a couple years ago, I was having trouble, it seemed that all the DCIM directorys would show up as "empty" and I called Apple Tech support. THe guys asked a few questions to verify what I was doing, and then he said something like "that functionality is not a supported function, so I cant help you." So, at that point I though I they had found some way to defeat me, so that the directorys on the iPhone would appear to be empty to windowsFileExplorer. Or maybe I was just being overly suspicious. A few days later I noticed that some function (i dont recall what) wanted me to sign in with my Apple Password when It didnt really make sense, but I did anyway, then that function worked, and I noticed that I started getting adds on google on my computer about things I searched on my phone (ah, so, apple and/or google then knew me on the phone was the same guy as me on the computer).... and the photo file access on my phone started to work again.
And over the years the file directory structor on the iphone has changed. But I got used to that.
ANother Recent change was that if edit the photo (say, crop or rotate) on iphone, the phone stores the editied photo by the same name (say img_1234.jpg) but in an other directory, so when copy it to the computer hardrive it conflicts with the original photo file name.
Well, now I am back to the photodirectorys on the iphone appearing to be empty to windowsFileExplorer, and has been that way for a few weeks. ANd am not finding a way around/past that. I figure with the last iOS update they figured some way to finally defeat me. I fought the IPhone ... and the Iphone won.
My only way around this, to get a photo for iphone to computer is I can email a photo from my phone to myself, and then oipen the email on computer and download the photo. But that is annoying and clunbersom and time consuming jst to get one or two pics. ANd not suitable for the dozens of pics from last couple weeks.
I suppose I need to start figuring out the Google Photos. . . . or Something.
Any recomendations??
