    Any Whiskey Lovers Out There?

Hey everyone, new to the forum, but just wondering if there are any whiskey lovers out there? Personally I'm not here to swing one way or the other in the wars of scotch versus irish or scotch versus burbon or scotch versus japanese, or what have you as my collection contains many diverse backgrounds and flavours of the drink I love. All are welcome here. So, what are your favorite brands or bottles out there that you would reccomend?

    Pictures welcome.

EDIT 01/14/24 - Man, I wasn't expecting this to keep going as long as it has. Thank you everyone for putting something in this thread, and for the suggestions, exposure, and insight into different bottles and opinions I haven't heard before.

I got my brother a nice set of Old Fashioned tumblers and a bottle of Four Roses small batch for his 60th birthday. Seemed like a solid Kentucky bourbon.

Can't say I disagree there, especially for the price. I know I would appreciate a gift like that. Might have to add that to the collection to see what it's all about.

Being from Kentucky, I have tried my share of Bourbons. Hard to beat Evan Williams offerings for the price. To this date the best I ever sipped is Blanton's by Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Don't think I've heard of that one. To be honest, on the bourbon side I've been sticking pretty tight to the Beam family since inflation has struck. I will see if any stores have that, but can't say I've had many even more expensive drams beat Old Tub unfiltered bourbon. I will definitely look into Blanton's for the next addition when I'm done with my current bottle. Thank you for the response.

Edit: Looking into it the closest I can say I've had was a Pinhook from last year that nice and nutty with a mild oaky musk.

Most folks around here seem to like the Ball Mason best. Not sure if it's bourbon, scotch, or Japanese, there's no label, just Ball Mason molded on the front of the jar.

When available that is the preferred choice. Depending the batch number of course.

My go-to when I was a drinking man was Windsor Canadian.
I never really got around to sampling a lot.

While not a fan of canadian whiskeys, I never judge a drink by it's price. That said military special scotch was a surprisingly pleasant experience if I do say so myself.

We've had a few tasting parties at the Brown County Rally over the years. A couple bottles of Blanton's included.

Scott's right about Evan Williams. It is my go to, everyday bourbon. Also my preferred mixer for Bourbon and Lemonade.

If you really want to try the Blanton's, get to know your local liquor store owners, and their delivery schedules.
Blanton's is really hard to find these days, like Weller and so many others. I bought my first bottle about 5-6 years ago for $37, the last one I got, earlier this year, was $100.

One bourbon I find very similar to Blanton's is Bowman Brothers small batch, about $30.

Aside from the bourbons, I like the Japanese whiskeys. Current favorite would be Suntory Toki.

I appreciate the picture and suggestions. Can't say I've had the Basil since they redesigned their bottle, but it was pretty good before. I would say almost up there with a basic Eagle Rare IMO. I haven't taken the time to look into it, but it seems that the Blanton's might be similar to a bottle of Pinhook "Burbon War" I was gifted a couple of years ago for my birthday. As for that level of rise in cost, I have seen it big time too with some I was getting as cheaper whiskey's being almost the same price as some of might higher-end bottle. That said Green Label hasn't moved surprisingly.

Tell me does all bourbon have that horrible burnt Caramel taste.
I've only had a few generic bourbons. I also cannot stomach scotch but tried a high end sample of an obscure single malt that had all the good but none of the bad taste it was really nice. But 50 dollars an ounce or so. Scotch it tastes like green wood to me. Queen Anne truly garbage an apt replacement for syrup of ipecac.

hate bourbon and scotch that I've had but loved all but the cheapest of ryes.

I've not had alcohol for years. Woke up one day said enough of neurotoxin.

I enjoy Basil Hayden, though I've been more into rum lately (and, in fact, just got back from a week in the Bahamas, tracking down pirate history-a long time wishlist trip).
