    A wonderful read

The Onion has dipped itself into reality through direct court action in support of writer Anthony Novak, putting itself before US Supreme Court as "friend of the court".

The article, including a link to the Amicus Curiae brief is here:

The satirical site submitted a 23-page brief to the Supreme Court in support of a First Amendment case. Mike Gillis, The Onion writer who authored the brief, tells NPR why parody is worth defending.

    The brief itself

Often wondered how much leeway a wise King might allow his Jester to deflate the upper echelons of his court?

That is a good comment, Brendan. The US of A Consitution, is most definitely at the forefront of this., but reality is that writing in this manner is far from new or unusual.
      .
As I recall, at least some of the Mother Goose stories were written in similar manner, the subjects being political figures and/or policies of the times.

Gilbert and Sullivan were infamous for doing the same in their operettas, and they are still popular today.

A line from HMS Pinafore that was not well received. "I thought so little they rewarded me by making me the ruler of the Queen's Navy"

An aside: I wonder how many of our current members know anything at all about the mentioned "pocket boroughs".

Lewis Carroll, although generally thought of as a writer of nonsense, takes a dig at norms of his day. We find threatening lives with Railway Shares in the Snarkhunters armoury.

At least one of which was under water if I'm not mistaken?

Back to thread title topic: the subject of the court case is very serious indeed, but reading the submission written by The Onion got me laughing with the first paragraph, which prompted me to post the thread. so others would get a laugh out of it as well.

As part of a previous job I got to deal with legal issues for the company for years.
I have read many court claim submissions and while they were not intentional parody, some have been so funny that I wondered what a judge would say when first reading them.
