Hate to burst your balloon, but...movies are not real. A boxing match doesn't sound like Rocky. How exciting would French Connection (or Smokey & The Bandit) be without the fake sounds?

Yes, an old acquaintance of mine actually believed it was really Steve McQueen who performed the fantastic motorcycle jump in The Great Escape.

Bud Ekins. Bud Ekins. But that will never happen again. With computer generated bull*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$, and Industrial Light & whatever, it just doesn't pay for a stuntman to risk his neck.

Now it can be told: in real life, Santa's sleigh and reindeers sound nothing like they do in the movies. Sorry.

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

The movies aren't real, but the vehicles often are real. That's the point.

As far as The Great Escape goes, if you freeze on the German motorcycle riders, you'll see that many are Ekins and McQueen

I love Mel Brooks movies, including "Robin Hood, Men In Tights"

Not in a movie, but was a playing card in your bicycle spokes a "fake" sound? or was it real?

What always gets me in action movies is the Bad Guys On Motorcycles trope. Like, there will be five bad guys on bikes chasing a terrified woman in a station wagon or something. Swinging clubs or maces or something while somehow also controlling the bike. Usually the leader pulls up two feet from the driver's window until the Good Guy shows up two seconds later to save the day.

In reality, all it would take to be rid of them permanently is a quick swerve or two followed by a good solid stomp on the brakes.

You slipped that one in rather nicely

Lots of kids took a clothes pin and some baseball cards to 'motorize' their bikes. I had nothing against the sound, would've even installed it on my bikes if it didn't drain power and speed.

Couldn't understand why everyone didn't know what I knew - those cards slow you down.

Correct Rob, the cards slowed your bike just as an air conditioner slowed our old muscle cars... Disadvantage to the air cond. they didn't make the cars sound any better.

It's always interesting during some vehicular chase scene when the rider somehow upshifts about 26 times in a row over a course of a few minutes. How do they stuff such a complicated transmission into that normal-looking bike?!
and God said, "Let there be air compressors!"
