Allz I know is that it's downright bizarre for Michigan to be getting easterly winds for over a week now, not to mention 20% humidity along with it, in early June. The sky was blue until about 1pm then the smoke blew back in, enough to block out the sun. With the dry air the temp dropped quick, might get down to freezing tonight!1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)

All this happened because the fire is in Canada. It doesn't mean that they are responsible. It just means the smoke is coming from fires in Canada. All that beautiful forest going to ruin. Mine as well logged it.
It is true that not letting small fires burn and making natural fire breaks was a problem in the U.S., but the laws changed a while back to allow some fire to burn their course. Of course, it's become a political football, and the policy is enforced like a light switch goes on and off.
Don't worry about Yellowstone, when the caldera goes up, we could end up with a really long Winter.

Could better land management help?
If someone started logging or messing with nature, sure enough there'd be someone to protest it.
I remember some story about Forrest in western states, they used to burn off the underbrush but stopped because of some reason. Next big Forrest fire and folks were saying that was the reason it got so bad.
And when they did have a fire pop up they
were quick to put it out, so the growth got outta control, so when a fire started and weather conditions are just perfect to really get it going...look out.
Seems like it wasn't long ago we were posted about Canadian Forrest fire.
Some of the videos were crazy, what ever kind of trees were in thise videos went up quick and furiously.
Almost like a bomb, maybe I'll try to find some of those videos, people were trying to leave as trees were burning on the right side of the road, and saying the heat was intense.
I'm sure these fires are no different.
Hopefully folks are not having to escape like back then.

Fire is a naturally occuring part of the life cycle of forests.
Every fire starts small, and whether it remains local or grows gigantic, and even coincides with others doing the same, as we are seeing now, is a reality that fits your description.
The sensationalism suits politicians and others who have "causes" to push, but this phase in the "life cycle of forests" has been happening for many centuries.

There is no question that forest mismanagement contributes to forest fires . However the " vast " { emphasis on the word vast } majority of scientific experts in the field name " climate change " as a significant contributor ..... I've got a deal with scientific experts. They don't tell me how to run my tugboat and I don't tell them they are full of sh!t about stuff they know more about than me .......Old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time1983 GS 750

Climate scientists have long warned that increased frequency and intensity of wildfires would be one of the consequences of climate change.
Scientists have long warned that global warming will increase the chance of severe wildfires like those burning across Canada and heat waves like the one smothering Puerto Rico.
At the moment, wildfires are burning across six provinces and one territory in Canada — and they’re still spreading in what’s being called an unprecedented fire season. While firefighters work tirelessly to battle the merciless flames and prevent further destruction, scientists say the wildfires are linked to climate change and that this will be the new normal.Last edited by bccap; 06-09-2023, 10:54 AM.Old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time1983 GS 750

A rotting tree in the forest produces large amounts of Carbon Dioxide. It would have been better off being felled, and made into furniture, siding, or 2x4's. Using Helicopters to thin the forest in the right areas is very profitable. I won't comment on the politics of Kanada, but it doesn't sound to far off from what happens down here, in the Ew Es.Aay.....

I'm reminded of the wise words of Smokey the Bear:
"Only YOU can prevent forest fires."

They pick up a lot more than one tree at a time. Only the big helicopters are profitable. This is something that may need to be subsidized. Some logging roads put in, and you can have machines that fell threes, strip the bar, cut the limbs, and cut what's left to length. The Helos would only be for the real hard to reach places. Doing something is better than letting the whole place burn. Makes you start to wonder, a couple of years (a decade maybe?) "Why do you guys think all that land belongs to you, because the British said so?" Use it or lose it, to fire. A natural, renewable resource not cared for. Hey, but what can I say, we're doing the same thing here! Who told us all this land belonged to us?

I saw on show on Alaska Tree Logging, using Erickson (formerly the Sikorsky Skycrane) which now owns that helicopter model and Kamen K-Max's carrying multiple huge trees. That being said, there are some trees that are so huge, only one could be carried. So let's keep this in perspective. There are a lot of companies doing this, and Kamen is doing well with the K-Max helicopter and the SIller Corporation with their Skycranes, and Erickson with theirs. Making a statement that alludes that a helicopter can carry only one tree at a time, and alluding at a narrow profit margin, and that makes it unfeasible. You speak with forked tongue.
It is done, and by many companies. These helicopters also carry a lot of other things. I have nothing to prove to anyone here. Use Google, and take better care of your trees. We'll try to do the same here, or at least set up huge fans to blow it North.
