Wondering what a 28MPH. gas bike should get in MPG. Would be interesting to compare mi. expected from a $50 bike batt. to $50 worth of gasoline... Hard to figure , no clue how many times batt. may recharge before it's gone.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. You're in Connecticut, right, so we can dispose of the helmets.
Around here (NYC), they're driven on streets, sidewalks, lawns, and anywhere else you can think of. 10 lane highways (like the Grand Central Parkway near LaGuardia airport)? Yes. Lane splitting? Of course.
You said they're "hear" to stay. That's their most dangerous attribute - they cannot be heard until it's too late. I'd sooner ride a horse.Old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time1983 GS 750

Then sometimes, up route 17 (the "Quickway") to Middletown, or even Monticello if I'm feeling ambitious. When I got my Sporty in 2016, I went past Ellenville and Kerhonkson (Accord, NY) and found a pine tree I climbed every summer from '65 to '69.
I love upstate New York. Used to live on the 'Barge' (Erie) Canal between Rochester and Buffalo. Lake Ontario is great. A great lake.

It has to be some of the best roads to ride on in the world. There are areas up there that you can go as fast as you dear, and the quality of the road upkeep is fantastic. I love leaning way over going up Bear mountain, leaning all the way over, maybe ding 35 mph, it's quite exhilarating I'll go up to route 44 and over to 199 to Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, then back over to Connecticut on Route 4 to Rte. 7 down Rte. 39 to my home. Excellent roads that haven't changed in 40 years.

I'm certainly not against the idea of someone having a casual bike repair business even if it IS in a residential setting. All you got to do is get them to figure out a safer place to store and charge batteries, a townhome isn't conducive to that.1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)

E-bikes are pretty safe provided you open up your wallet . I wouldn't buy anything that isn't either Bosch or Shimano electrically equipped .... In Kanada that means north of $4,000 ....Old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time1983 GS 750

One of the things I don't like about E-bikes is now you have a bunch of not very good bikes (ours although a well known manufacturer & reasonably expensive would barely qualify as a Walmart special without the electrics) with not very experienced riders going pretty fast on them...
A lot of them can be hacked to go faster than they should very easily (as well as a lot of kids riding E dirt bikes around town here too).
I got knocked off one a few months back (I'd tell you how fast I was going but I am blank from about 5 mins before it happened & nobody saw or stopped, was an anonymous call-in) and ended up in ER. One minute I was riding & the next Beep beep beep. Scary. I was wearing one of my mountain bike helmets & given the state of it (and my face) it probably saved me from some much bigger injuries.
The Dr's at the Trauma center told me they are seeing a lot of bicycle accidents these days that resemble motorcycle accidents.... the speed must have something to do with that.
I agree the batteries need to be better regulated for all of this stuff... Motorcycle lithium batteries too. There is a lot of info online & some are great with a bunch of safeties & others are just junk thrown together with no control circuits.1980 GS1000G - Sold
