    Another left turner story.

Left turner took my youngest son out at an intersection in Vancouver last week on his Enfield Conti 650.
Thankfully he wasn't hurt much as he was doing a sensible 40 kph.
Looks like the forks have twisted in the trees, rim buckled. Golf ball sized dent in the tank from the tripletree and steering lock is confused.
Insurance back today, 100% fault of the other car.
The years I've been here I see many lefty stories and more crazy besides like Trevor.
You wonder when it's your turn.

Glad your son is relatively Ok.

Anecdotally, my younger son started College last month in Williamsport, a small city about 30 miles from home (home of the Little League World Series), where he has his Prius so he can shop, whatever, come home every other weekend to tend bar and make some money. Two weekends ago, another student pulled out of a parking space and hit his car. Campus police were called, as the female driver of other car was crying uncontrollably and my son didn’t know what else to do. Was determined her fault. Her insurance is covering the $2000 repair bill. But my son wasn’t able to get his car inspected before inspection expired end of August. No sense doing it now. Car is drivable only because my son Is thin. Can’t open the driver side door very far. Shop can’t fix his car til November.

So, against my better judgement, I took his motorcycle to him there. He has it parked in a lot behind a friend’s apartment, off the street, relatively safe neighborhood. I bought him a cable lock and a cover. My big concern is that he’s a new rider, though he’s got a good head on his shoulders and isn’t a risk taker. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. He doesn’t have the years of experience watching and reacting to dumb left turners and other cage drivers oblivious to motorcycles. I’ll bring the bike home likely before his car is repaired. He’ll just have to deal without wheels for a few weeks in November.

    Stay safe out there, All.

Sorry, Brendan. Didn’t mean to hijack your thread or try to make this about me or my son.

Glad your son is alright Brendon. And I hope his experience with Ickie Bickie is a satisfactory one. I got lucky with my accident in the West End . Woman drove across from an alley and cut me off . To avoid collision I laid it down. Didn't think I'd get anything as there was no collision but when I reported it to ICBC they followed up and interviewed her.,..... The woman swore she wasn't at fault but admitted the circumstances of what had happened .... ICBC informed her that she was at fault in spite of there being no impact as she caused the accident ......

That's tough, Brendan. Small damage to to your son and the bike MIGHT be a valuable learning tool.
What's the line?.....Ride like all the cars out there are trying to kill you.

Having once survived a life threatening accident I can't imagine dwelling on a thought like that and continuing to ride!

Thanks everyone. I'm amazed how quickly ICBC came back with decision.
Rich, no worries about hijack. More of these stories are posted the better.
Steve, my slightly different version is ride like you are invisible.
              Trevor, I'll pass that along.
Lab, some days the road feels funny and I look at oncoming and wonder which one it's going to be.
One day I will hang up the boots, but it's not today.

Yeah I hear that...even when I was lying in a hospital bed for two weeks I can honestly say I never once thought about giving up riding. And thank goodness my wife never wanted me to give it up either.
Riding simply gives me to much enjoyment.....not just the act of riding but travelling with friends or alone is such a stress relief for me that I don't know how I'll ever replace it. It's a huge reason why are started looking after myself better....going to the gym, eating better, yoga etc....all to allow me to stay on a bike for as long as possible.
Yeah I am happy icbc was good....gov run insurance is the way it should be...just like healthcare.

Glad to hear your boy is ok, it's all that matters. It's funny, I bought my kid quads, dirt bikes etc and he loved them, but he never got into riding a street bike and I was always fine with that.

I was getting gas when this happened the other day.

DANSVILLE, N.Y. — A motorcyclist from Rochester was killed in a crash in front of the Kwik Fill on Main Street in the Village of Dansville on Saturday. Dansville police today identified the motorcyclist as Joshua A. Lott, 32.According to Dansville police, Lott was headed south with a passenger on Main Street at about 4 […]

I still don't know what to think. The guy had typical harley guy gear, which means not much.

I wonder, would I have been able to avoid that? Would my full helmet and gear have saved me? I don't know. But seeing him dead in front of a gas station ...... i don't know.

Left turns are statistically more dangerous. Right turns in places where they drive in the left.

its so great I avoid them even if it takes longer.

right or left coming to a dead stop in a traffic stream is a high risk for being rear ended.

I don't go right to the front at the light. I see guys goosing it right as it goes green, which is a recipe for disaster the way people run red lights here. There's a local intersection that has the highest accident rates in the county (3M population). Three of four feeder streets are downhills, it's a long light so people don't want to sit through it, and there's a Kaiser Permanente health facility right there. There have been episodes - one guy drove straight into the oncoming cars stopped at the light and took out 9 cars. I avoid that intersection like the plague. On the same street, there are two more that are top 10 in the county. Unbelievable. I also try to always make eye contact, watch their hands on the wheel, and keep 2 fingers on the brake. I intend to live forever. So far, so good!
