Happy Thanksgiving. What's for dinner at your house?

What's for Thanksgiving dinner this year?
For me it's a traditional turkey dinner. I usually do a beef prime rib. But with turkey being .88cents a pound vs $15+ a pound it's going to be a turkey day.
    Turkey
    Pumpkin pie
    Homemade Stuffing
    Pumpkin pie
    Mashed Potatoes
    Pumpkin pie
    Green bean casserole
    Oh and Pumpkin pie!
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

But Norm, are you having pumpkin pie?

I have a 20 year tradition of deep frying the Turkey. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have always despised pumpkin pie. Not the flavor. It’s a texture thing. My mom makes the best apple pie in the world. No hyperbole. But she is visiting a sick relative and won’t be home to make it. Wife and I are on our way to get the next best thing. A homemade pie made by one of the Mennonite ladies at the local market. Almost as good as mom’s.

    peace, all.

Had ours last Saturday since the wife has to work tomorrow.

      Turkey of course
keto mashed taters- only about 20% taters with cauliflower and cheese mixed in
      deviled eggs
      green bean casserole
crappy bagged stuffing- super salty, not my style

No dessert for the first time I can remember, and a broken oven.

Oven went into lock mode for a few hours, but has since come out. I believe the MIL fat fingered it into the clean cycle and cancelled.

Hey, Norm, you can have one course of pie with whipped cream, and then the next pie alamode, then next plain….. just so it’s a more balanced meal.

Going to daughters house, sons family there too.

I can’t state the full menu. I was asked to bring mashed taters and a couple pies.
And the mashed taters will be mashed taters, not whipped fluffy. Pies from local restraunt.

I may need to intervene if no one is making gravy.

Interesting what some people think is necessary. Some think there has to be a certain type of cranberry something, some folks think there needs to be a certain type of bread roll, both of which I would not even notice if was missing. But, DOES need to be gravy, lots of gravy.

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

For the first time in a long time we won't be hosting.
I've been working 70 hour work weeks, I haven't had a break in about 6 weeks. So this year I told the extended family I won't be making dinner.

So we are visiting the my wife's Father and Step-mother for the holiday.

She will have the usual spread. It will be just the 5 of us, them my wife, I am Willa.

Low key day, I look forward to just relaxing and not cooking for a day or two.

Some of you that know me won't be surprised that my dinner will consist of BBQ. Much preferred over turkey. Got a full rack of ribs for me and some pulled pork for the wife.
Side dishes will be potato salad and green beans along with dinner rolls and deviled eggs. Followed by ice cream of course.

Happy Thanksgiving to all GSR members.

                  Happy Thanksgiving GSR!

We have all the traditional dishes but we don't cook a thing! Several years ago we decided to try the catered route and have never returned to cooking for this holiday ( we do cook for other holidays).

This year our food is being cooked right in Plymouth, how appropriate! Cakes and pies from a local bakery. We will have a total of 12 people over today and plenty of food.

I know many consider the cooking as part of the celebration....but don't knock it til you try it. I am not for crunching numbers on something like this, but I don't think the cost is much more than doing everything yourself. My wife always stacks up on those plastic container things and asks the guests to grab some to go stuff, works out great.

                  Enjoy your day, GSR!
