From a song by a pair of famous Californians:

"If you don't mind heat in your river..."

How did Paul and Grace know about warming in 1968?!? Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

BTW, this is the second machine I bought. Honda stopped making gas powered lawn mowers, so this is last of the breed. It's got a hydrostatic transmission and blade brake clutch. It's a left over, built in 2023, which had a camshaft problem. Honda pulled a lot of mowers off retailers floors, because the compression release built into the cam was faulty. Honda fixed the units, then returned them to the retailers...where I got this one. It's super smooth running. Starts with a half-hearted pull of the cord. And the drive system is really easy to use. I'm going to go ape $hit on the maintenance, and take care of this thing, to make it last.

A major bummer from my life...we moved from apartment to private house when I was 11. Backyard, front yard, and that means lawnmower! I could barely wait to get my mitts on the pull string of a 3 hp Briggs & Stratton. The sound, the fumes, the planning for when I cannibalize it for a minibike, or go-kart. And then...Dad buys a Sears electric mower! ("Don't run over the cord, son, or you'll electrocute yourself.")

Almost like when he took me to a racetrack for the first time. Horses! Racing! Betting! Only...

It was Monticello Raceway. Trotters! "They ARE racing, son, they're just not allowed to run as fast as they can"

The best part was when the Cadillac holding the starting gate floored it and pulled ahead of the horses. General Motors V-8 always wins!

My dad bought some POS Montgomery Wards mower with Briggs engine, that had a crank handle on the top. You had to wind it up, until it stopped, then hit some button, which turned the engine over...in an attempt to start. I say attempt, because that machine was a biotch to start. And yes, I was the designated lawn mower slave in the family.

This was a perfectly good thread, until you ruined it.

And you are wrong, there is no "getting around California law", I followed it to the letter, and I still am.

Well, your condescending reference, calling me a "rocket scientist", is indicative of your inability to be civil to people that don't share your point of view. You are the sarcasm master. Continually calling me "Joe", in an attempt to veil the insult, in your mind anyway. Honestly Garth, you are better than that, or at least I'd like to think so.

You are smart enough to know, or at least I'd like to think, that California's government is filled with well intended, but really dumb, politicians that take pride at "setting the tone" for others to follow. Thing is, in instances like this, there is no science behind their laws. China emits about 2.6x more CO2 than the US. They have 1160 coal burning power plants, compared to the US with about 220. It's outright stupid, dumb, short-sighted, to think that California, by banning gas lawn equipment, will have any impact on worldwide CO2 levels, yet they did it.

Wrong again. This thread is about me buying a gas lawn mower, before it's too late. You are the one that turned that into a political statement. If you want to press me about why CA made such a law, then yes, the answer is political. But that was not my intention with the thread. You pushed the thread that way.

Your logic is the same logic gun nuts have. Every time there is a school shooting they run to the store and stock up in case the government wakes up and says " Hey ! These things are dangerous " ..... Which is exactly what you did and you showed in further posts it didn't stop with a lawn mower .... Don move this over to the Vortex where it belongs ......
