I have heard stories about it, but...

Until now I had never seen an actual breakdown of how much doctors and hospitals charge for regular procedures.
This woman has provided copies of some of her actual bills for giving birth in 2023 at an unnamed hospital...one is over $56,000....and she has more bills, as well. that she says bring the total to over $70,000. Her insurance covered most of the costs, but there are more bills still coming to her, several months after the event that she must pay.

It sure is different here.....my wife had in-hospital consultations with her OB multiple times during her 2023 pregnancy. These included a visit and ultrasound checks done at 3 months, then every month until 8th month after which it was every week. Birth was uncomplicated and she came home with our baby on the third day.

Our baby got quite sick six weeks after birth and the paediatrician who saw her sent her directly to the closest hospital.
My wife had a bed in the private room and stayed with her.
They were in that hospital for six days

I paid about $25 for parking fees with every visit to each hospital which would come to probably $400, maybe more.
We also paid for my wife's meals at a privately-run take-out restaurant within the second hospital while she remained with the baby...cost $200.
    .
Those were all of our out-of-pocket expenses. .

Here is the story, with photos.

Pretty much impossible to find out the costs at a Kanadian hospital ..... Though I did once ask my surgeon what he figured I cost during my two month stay at St. Paul's with one month in ICU . He figured around $3 million ..... I did have a chuckle at your comments on food . The happiest day of my incarceration was the day I had the strength to grab my tree of life with one arm and my credit card with the other and make it down to the cafeteria for some real food ......
