    Why I hate scooters

They're ridden on sidewalks...they're too quiet...they're used in crimes.

Last night in the Bronx, an illegal immigrant suspected in a string of violent robberies was being chased by police. They attempted to pull him over because he was riding his scooter the wrong way down a one way street. He ditched the bike and they chased him on foot. He fired at the police; one was shot in the leg, the other was saved by his vest. They shot and captured the suspect.

In 2022, zero robberies involving scooters were reported in NY City. Last year 20-odd, so far this year more than 80. They are favored by gangs who steal phones and anything else of value they can grab, often dragging victims who are reluctant to let go of their possessions.

All the food delivery guys should be required to ride ICE mopeds (that make sound) if they don't have a car. ALL electric bikes and skateboards should be banned. They're too quiet to be safe. And they kill many people - either in accidents or fires caused by the batteries.

P.S. I am NOT opposed to calling your full size, ICE motorcycles 'scooters.' I rather like that.

It's probably a good thing that you live in an apartment and don't have a lawn.

Not so new, been done in Europe since 125cc was discovered.
Going way back to 1967, movie Grand Slam, ended with stolen jewels, stolen again by purse snatcher on Vespa.

Ah, but I do have a lawn. And a patio. And a pool. (Ground floor apartment.) Praise Bob!

I'm glad I read the whole post - my 170cc scooter is one of the best things I've ever owned!

Yes, the silence of electric vehicles is scary in various ways.

I'd like to own a Vespa. But them sucker's are expensive and they hold their resale value very well.
Sure there are less expensive scooters, but if I'm going to be seen on a scooter it's going to be the real McCoy.

My Yamaha Majesty 400cc maxi-scooter may be the most practical 2 wheel vehicle I have ever owned.

The real dirty little secret is that they're just stupid fun to ride. We've had three, Vino 125, Burgman 400 and a PCX125. Each one a hoot.

I saw a guy at Costco a while ago with a Suzuki 400 scooter. I was astounded at what he could stuff into that space under the seat ......

A man in my city (NY) had his leg broken by a hit and run e-bike yesterday.

Funny, I just got 3 scooters in the past couple of days. I got an 04 Honda Reflex for $500 with 3100 miles on it. "didn't run" It was out of gas... Runs great and will be going over it and plan to use it to commute on when the Bonneville is down.

We also got a pair of Honda Elite CH80s that were old Shriners bikes for parades. Guy owed me some cash for motorcycle repair work and parts and just gave me two early 90's Honda Elite scooters for trade. 500 miles on both, missing plastics and ripped seats but run great! Might keep them as just yard and campground rigs. Willa absolutely loves riding them with me on them. So we go around our property her holding on the handle bars and laughing the whole time (at 3-5mph) the Dog will run next to us, chase us we chase her we all laugh. More fun for then it should be but we rode until the sun fell out of the sky last night. Memories I will definitely take to the grave with me.

Those Electric bikes are crazy. I watched an older in not so great shape woman wreck one just recently going at least 35mph. I pulled over to see if she was ok, she was walking around but banged and scrapped up really bad.
They are basically mopeds but folks just ride them in shorts and tee's. I recommended to her next time to wear gloves, jeans and at least a mesh jacket next time.

                          Have a great weekend folks!
