I just spent a few hours in Manhattan. If you leave the sidewalk in the least bit, you take your life in your hands. Those 'bike' lanes are supposed to be one way, but it's a free for all. Complete Helter Skelter. All manner of vehicles traveling at about 30 mph. When something goes 30 mph inches from where you're standing...look out!
At one point, I noticed a couple of real motorcycles in the street moving along at a nice clip, and the electric skateboards in the bike lanes were leaving them in their dust.
They only stop for red lights when cross traffic forces them to.

Nope. The oxymoron may be the illogical animosity some folks have for scooters while claiming to be motorcycle enthusiasts. Much like the stupid attitude many Harley riders take toward Japanese motorcycles.
