24 hour distance record on motorcycle shattered
This guy averaged over 100mph for 24 hours, pretty impressive! My only question is why did he need a new set of tires half way through?

Not knowing anything much about tire wear, really. I googled it - Higher driving speeds cause more heat to build up in the rubber, breaking down the tire more quickly than at slower speeds.
So, at sustained speeds of over 100 MPH would, I think, wear the tire much quicker than normal.Rich

Yup, higher speeds wear out tires a LOT faster. Harder braking and acceleration do as well. Plus, all the wear was on one narrow stripe of the tire.
Also, sometimes OEM tires are a special variant that doesn't last as long. Not sure if that applies here.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
