    Earlfor

I spoke with Earl on the phone this morning. There is a good reason he has not posted since Hurricane Milton hit Florida two weeks ago. The storm put his house in 14 feet of water (essentially a lake) which has only receded to 8 feet as of yesterday. He had to call for a 9/11 rescue out. It floated away his van to a location still unknown.

He is for now living in a cabin in the woods along a dirt road about 100 miles north of his submerged home. There is no internet access and he only has 1 bar on his phone most times. He is pretty much stuck there since all vehicles were lost. They are looking into a satellite connection to get back on the internet.

Understandably things moving forward are pretty much in limbo right now. He believes the house will be a total loss because of the dark mold that will permeate--structurally sound but toxic for anyone to live in.

Until he can get back online I will serve as relay via text any messages to/from Earl. I will also be checking in with him and updating along the way.

    Thanks for the update, Don.
Tragic loss of material items, but at least Earl is OK.

Don, I'm south of you in ST. Augustine. Anything I can assist with?

I'm overstocked on TP and tree branches. Or did I make TP out of the tree branches

Let him know I just landed about 40 miles NE of Macon, Ga today and if he needs someone for brute force and ignorance type work to be done I can be there post haste. BTW, I'm being serious this time (for a change)

Good idea Mason ....... If as Don says he left with the assistance of 911 he likely left with the clothes on his back ....

I think yours is a generous offer, but likely cannot be taken as Don's description of the house tells me there is little to no reason to expect any part of it will be salvageable.
With there being 8 feet of water still in the house after two weeks, it will need many more weeks for that to drain away and dry.

Given these realities Earl's expectation of a write-off is a near certainty as mould will permeate every part of the house, whether visible or hidden.

                              .
