Very glad to see you posting again!

18 years of it??.....hmmm ....thinking...thinking....It was 2004 when I visited you in Naples. That was 20 years ago.. Does this suggest that, weather-wise, Naples was safer?

If you want to move elsewhere...say a looong way north, where hurricanes happen but are far less severe and "flooding" , while rare, most often means a few inches in the basement.... I would not object to having you as a neighbour

Of course, I should warn you that, in some months, rain comes in a different colour

The difference between Naples and Brooksville is in Naples i was on the point of the sword. i knew that every hurricane was going to hit me first. Also. Naples doesn't have the flooding problems like Brooksville.

My intent is not to turn this post in a political direction, but that is always tough these days. I am surprised to learn that without flood insurance, you are in tough shape even in a declared disaster area.

Since I live in an area where disasters are extremely rare, I haven't dug into the money end of it, following the disaster. I always thought that when an area was declared a disaster, the government would make you whole...........not the case.

So in Earl's case, where he has stated he is not going back, it seems he is on the hook for damages and equity lost. Am I missing something? If he walks away, is it land value only, which has got to be less than an area that has not flooded.

FEMA will come up with $36k......Here comes the borderline political comment.................we send billions of dollars around the world to help others and we don't take care of our own people affected by disasters?

If your home is flooded and you don't have flood insurance, you may be eligible for FEMA or SBA disaster assistance if you meet certain criteria.

Glad Earl and crew made it out, highschool friend lives in north Carolina and the pics he has from the area around him are crazy.

I walked away from buying two houses out in the country because they were considered in a flood plain ? If that's correct terminology.

One was close to Missouri river, and it had five feet of water in 1993, everybody said it was 500 year flood...it's happened twice since..lol

the other one was near a creek and never could see why that was considered "flood zone " because no matter what nobody around there ever seen that creek out of its banks and house was up hill and good distance from the creek.

but that's what the insurance folks said, somebody bought both, the one by the river is a mess and the other one is real nice?

maybe the insurance is high ?
              I passed on them anyway!

I understand your thesis but that isn't the way it works. Neither your country or mine is spending money around the world " to help people " { with the possible exception of the Ukraine } We do it to gain economic influence ..... A good example is China in Africa. They have gained more economic influence than the rest of us on the pretext of " helping people ".....

Exactly. We do it to help ourselves.
