    Malcolm Smith RIP

The word "Legend" gets thrown around a lot...probably too much. But there is no more of a true legend in the sport we love as much as Malcolm Smith. His accomplishments are far too many to list here.
He changed how people looked at the world of motorcycling.
Little know fact id the Malcolm was born in Canada....not far from where I live, on a tiny island called Salts Spring Island....his family moved to California when he was 5 years old. Salts Spring was known as a draft dodger hideaway in the 60s....when he was born there it would have been a pretty rustic existence for sure.

RIP indeed! Malcom's exploits in "On any Sunday" got me hooked on these two wheeled contraptions when I was 14 or so. Motorcycles were a hard NO for my Mom so I waited until I was 18 and bought a well worn Yamaha DT250. It did indeed try to kill me a time or three but here I am almost 50 years later still riding!
    sigpic2002 KLR650 Ugly but fun!
2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

I was probably 6 or 7 years old when I went to the theatre to see the movie with a friend.....I never rode a bicycle the same way again. I was hooked!

More than decade ago. Malcolm Smith wrote these words for the final chapter of his acclaimed 2015 autobiography: “It all started for me on March 9, 1941, in a small rural hospital in the village of Ganges, on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada… “Where it will end, no one knows. But you can be sure I’m going to enjoy every minute I have left, with a smile on my face, and my family nearby. Can’t ask for more than that.” You can’t, and he didn’t…and the world’s motorcycling fans are better for it. Godspeed, Malcolm.

He was a hero to many of us. R.I.P.

R.I.P. Malcom! Great thread to talk about how it started......

            1) Pre-teen: Ducati 50, I would ride it in the beach parking lots and sidewalks in Rota.

            2) Back in the states, 12 years old MX175, running from the police while cutting through neighborhoods was a blast! Nasty exhaust during a crash...

            3) 14 years old, CB550, waiting for the day I turned 15 to get my permit.

            4) 19 years old, bought the last CB1100F that the local dealer had in the crate. They delivered it to my house in a blizzard!

            Great memories!!!
