    Windows 11 connection problem

My W-11 computer is increasingly having software glitches with internet connection.

The router is fine, no problem. Everything else connects to it

What happens is the internet connection just randomly stops.

When I go to Settings it usually shows "connected, secure"...but the response to any URL I put in is the same...unable to connect.
Sometimes it just shows no connection....while everything else in the house still works.

I do use the standard Microsoft solution... when you want Windows to work, restart or shut down your computer.but having to do that sometimes two or three times while using it is frustrating..

It may not happen for a few days, but then it can happen several times over a few hours, or even the same hour.

Is there a simple solution for this?

Can't really help you, as I just got my first Win11 machine a few months ago. No trouble with mine.

Which version? S, Home, or Pro?

There is a good forum for Windows 11 here: https://www.elevenforum.com/

      My cheek of version shows:
      W-11 Pro
      10.0.22631
      build 22631

      E D I T

This may be important or not:
When I bought the computer it had Windows 10 pre-loaded and Microsoft updated it online to W-11

OK...I have the home version on this laptop, but haven't had any issues. Yet.

Check out that forum. It's big and fairly active. Some people have reported issues after an update it appears. I have not updated mine at this time.

I don't have Windows 11 I have 10. But I did have a similar issue . I only turn my computer off once a week or so and I have about 40 tabs open on the top of my Firefox browser . The computer would crash on a regular basis . I use Ccleaner for maintenance but I never let it shut down Firefox for maintenance out of fear I would lose the " Restore previous session " option and have to manually restore each tab . After some research I found out I would not lose this feature other than having to put passwords back in for each tab. Once I allowed Ccleaner to shut down Firefox a massive amount of cleaning happened . And when I hit " Restore previous session " it was lightening fast and no more crashing issues .....

Don't know if it will work for you but might be worth a shot. Ccleaner can also repair software and update drivers in the paid version but the free version will clean your browser .....

              It isa wi-fi connection

The router is in a cabinet on main floor and computer is in a finished basement beneath that cabinet, so.the distance between router and computer is not more than ten feet. .

This is a two-storey house and the router signal is good throughout the house, including when the computer fails as my phone still has good connection.
These are the reasons I believe the problem is software.

                Thanks for that tip, Garth.

I have used Spybot Search and Destroy for years....ran it yesterday, in fact, but the computer failed this morning.

I downloaded CCleaner, ran it and it showed it had cleaned up 3316 files.
I do not know what else it had to say because it started to show an overlaid pop-up about cloud cleaning being available......and then it all froze and the program stopped running.

I went back to the usual Windows shut-down and on return the internet still works!

Ccleaner can look like it is hanging if there are some things really slowing it down. Might be as much as fifteen or twenty minutes til it resolves things . But it sounds like it was finished in your case and just hadn't shut down yet. Every once in a while they will fire off an email offering the paid version for 22 loonies a year. I got it last time the 50% off offer was made ......The paid version has a software repair function, a driver update function, and a cleanup for outdated apps ..... I use it in conjunction with MalwareBytes { paid version } which if I remember correctly you recommended to me ......

Has the computer got an onboard wifi card or a usb dongle?
Could you run an ethernet wire to it for a bit and see what happens or doesn't.

So it sounds like connecting a network cable won't work. Sounds like a computer related WiFi issue. To confirm this can you set your phone up as a hotspot and connect through that? If problem persists than you confirmed it's a problem with the computers WiFi. If computer works fine then reboot your router and reconnect back to that. Then I would go in through your device manager and by right clicking on the wireless network device uninstall the network device and then reboot to reload the drivers or right click at the top of the device manager list to rescan for hardware changes that will also reload the driver. Before uninstalling it would proactively be wise right down what the network device is and download the appropriate driver from the manufacturer an case the windows one doesn't reload although that isn't normally a problem. To get to the device manager open the windows search bar (not google) bottom left of your home screen. Type in device and select device manager from the list, should be on top. From there select your network adaptors and it's drop down arrow. You'll options there, update driver will usually just show you have the correct driver already installed (not much use), Disable device will do just that so you to uninstall so it will reload and refresh the driver. Good Luck, have to go now.

My response here is a bit of a leap from intermittent WiFi connectivity issues, however...

I spent more than a decade working in Aust Federal Govt Dept IT groups. My training of course was in Microsoft (MS) products. After about 3 years I decided to start working in alternative operating systems. I had learned that Microsoft environments were getting way too bloated and they tended to become ever increasingly interrogated by the manufacturer.

I also noticed that the increase of 'Cloud Services' grew as MS environments became more complicated. Now-a-days MS operation systems are fully integrated with their cloud service. That means any data you store in the cloud is scraped daily and it becomes a small part of the overall global 'Big Data' environment. Think A.I. back end.

I began working in the early iterations of Linux which have now become very sophisticated and secure. All of my computers now have Linux Mint installed. I run the Mint version because its functionality and feel is close to older versions of the Windows system.

Am I suggesting you scrap Windows and learn a new system. well yes. If you want a stable computer system with top notch security then a version of Linux is your best bet.

If you feel uncomfortable blowing away your MS operating system to give Linux a try, you can (depending on your hard drive capacity) install a dual boot system with Linux running alongside your MS system. This arrangement offers both environments on one device while getting used to Linux.

The only disclaimer I offer here is some software packages (applications) and games are built solely for MS and will not work in Linux. That said, there are a multitude of application equivalents built for Linux.

                        Yes - I'm a fan of Linux.

Oh by the way, the core components of the Apple computer operating systems are build on the Unix systems as is Linux.

Linux is good but kind of a long way around to fix a flaky wifi connection. And, yes Apple is based on it, BSD IIRC.

We have two identical PCs. Mine runs Ubuntu, Mary runs W11 despite my ' on your head be it ' attitude.
Her machine started losing the internet connection randomly. Could never pin it down to signal, memory or anything obvious.
I was kind of dismissive, blaming Windoze for unspecified failings that would have been tantamount to racism in another context etc etc.
Then we swapped my wire for her usb dongle.
Everything was fine for half the day and I was about to say I told you so when my machine dropped out.
Some things have the decency to stay failed when they fail. Then there is this other class of sneaky objects............
