So... A Canadian praises an American President, who had a failure of a presidency, but post-office proved his immense integrity and his love of his nation. A genuine statesman.

An Irishman, wonders what Donald Trump would say about Jimmy Carter.

So the Canadian posts Donald Trump's own words, in which he likens himself to the late President Carter as part of the 'Presidents club'. It's pointed out arguably that to make yourself part of the eulogy may be seen as bad taste.

An American jumps to President Trump's defense. Asserting that non-Americans should keep their opinions to themselves. Regardless of the fact that as the 'leader of the free world' and of the largest economy on the planet (currently) whose decisions effect the lives of everyone on the planet, including me in little ole New Zealand. We should butt out and suck it up.

And then it degenerates into personal attacks and name-calling. No wonder the world is so fûckëd.

With great power come great responsibility. It appears to me that the US has forgotten what international leadership in our world is. And that the rest of the world is under no illusion about the USA is a world power in decline. If you think the USA isolating itself from the rest of the world, and fighting amongst yourselves will make America great again, think again. The world will reconfigure to live without the USA as a compass. Someone else will fill the vacuum when the USA exits.

Currently the USA is 4.23% of the global population and 25.95% of global GDP. Not a bit player but not the be all and and all.

    Sometimes I despair.

Looks like you guys are once again missing the point. A thread that was meant to be a remembrance quickly turned into another lame "let's bash each other over ideological differences" festival.

Some would say America is going down the tubes, my take is all of north America is! You can blame your least favorite politicians for this happening but when you continue to play that game for them then who is actually at fault? It's as if the entire continent has reverted back to their teen years where everything they know is true while rebelling against anything that doesn't fit into their continuously changing world view which hinges on whether they feel they're on the losing side of an argument.

If more people not only thought but actually acted like Jimmy Carter then none of the clowns in charge would have ascended to power.

Carter understood that solutions lay in unity, not tribalism. Only a fool fails to see that these fault lines are the pathway to destruction. United we stand divided we fall.

One person posted " one " post that Nessism and Wounded didn't like . That is hardly a bash fest over " ideologies " ..... { and if you want to call it one it is those two that are doing the bashing } ...... Trevor has made no personal attack response to either Nessism or Wounded ..... He has done nothing but defend his point of view ...... And that " one " post was a relatively harmless comment on the current President's comments on Mr Carter's death .....

On the flip side I'm going to have to up my US responses. I get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside when those two are pi$$ed . Have to leave this one out though as I have nothing but respect for Mr. Carter .....

In 1969 our Prime Minister at the time was our current Prime Minister's dad Pierre Trudeau. In a comment at the New York press club he had these words which agree with your sentiment ......

Lots of inappropriate political bollocks posted by the usual arseholes here.
I can recall where and what I was doing in nov 1980 when Carter conceded.
I was blasting music in a 10 ton pulp truck
News came on the radio and when Carter began his speech or very shortly in someone in the crowd shouted " we love you Jimmy" And he responded " I love you too"
He outlived most of his detractors and his legacy will outlast the rest of you and the yet unborn.

Carter was a failure as a president, and worked hard to undermine US policy after he left office.

For both Republican and Democrat administrations.

Carter's direct undermining of the Clinton Administration's policies towards North Korea during his infamous visit with Kim (when he took a CNN crew with him, which was not OK'ed by the Clinton Administration) and misrepresented to the the world that he was an official US envoy when he wasn't, led to Bill Clinton referring to him as a "treasonous prick", and also directly led to the North Korea getting nuclear wepaons.

OK, guys, time for me to make peace. Rise above politics. Read Wolf's "The Electric Koolaid Acid Test" and Herman Hesse's "Journey To The East"

Full disclosure: I passed the acid test the day after thanksgiving 1973. Took it again the very next day. Lived a perfect life since then.

When I see a 750 Kawasaki 2 stroke triple parked next to a 903cc Z1, I bow deeply at them before standing and admiring for several minutes, then genuflect and leave, filled with joy and beauty in my heart.

Follow my example, and we'll all live in peace.

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.
