    Who knew sharks can bite?

As social media has grown, so, it seems, has the willingness of supposedly intelligent people to act.....stupidly

This article from National Post tells us about a Canadian woman, who, while visiting Turks Caicos, was so committed to getting a close-up photo she actually "attempted to engage" with a six-foot shark .

'Consular officials are contacting local authorities to gather information and stand-ready to provide consular assistance,' Global Affairs Canada says

Last gig I did before I retired was running a 200 foot live aboard dive ship in Mexico .... I can with authority say that shark people are fuddle duddling crazy . On one occasion we were doing Great Whites. We had two cages off the stern and one at thirty feet on the port side .... I took the below picture just before the shark dove on the thirty foot cage and got stuck in between those two railings you see in the picture..... It shook the sh!t out of the cage and snapped off the two railings before we got the cage raised and on deck . The divers were white when they got out but after a couple of drinks in the hot tub when I went up to check on them, they called it the " dive of their lives " ...... THEY ARE ALL PUCKING NUTS !

I once filled out an insurance claim for one of our Zodiacs, Under reason for claim I wrote .... " Shark ate it " .....

I have dived with many different sharks: Hammerheads, lemons, whale sharks, black tips, nurse, leopard, sand tigers, and for the most part, I've never felt crazy for doing so. I do want to do a great white dive off Guadalupe at some point.

I fell in love with sharks thanks both to Benchley (ironically) and Cousteau when I was very young.

      Great pic, Garth!

That is Guadalupe Mason .... Last I heard Great Whites were finished at Guadalupe. The Mexican government shut it down .....

Yep, I know it is currently closed. I am still hoping for a re-opening at some point in the next few years. Diving off the Farallons is not ideal.

Such idiocy.................the mind boggles. Anyone who defends placing themselves at the mercy of a wild animal deserves what they get. Anyone facilitating the practice of doing so should be jailed or fined till they stop.

                  c. 20 yrs ago saw a docu about some loon doing this in a false belief that the sharks had some sort of communion going on with him. Anthropomorphizing a creature whose only function is to swim and eat and occasionally breed requires some severe mental contortions.

You may recall two boys killed by a large snake that there mothers wonderous "partner" owned down east years ago. Same bloody minded idiocy.

The same fools play with bears at roadside in the woods. The same fools drive snowmobiles on river ice and die.

Meanwhile, dolphins were spotted feeding today between Manhattan and Queens. If only they could be persuaded to leap a little higher and feed on some of those Canadian geese.
