Fired US Gov't worker? This NBC link may be of help

The number one reason GSR came into being nearly thirty years ago was to provide help and knowledge for those who needed it.
At that time it was a bulletin board and almost everyone was involved with GS bikes. .

Since that beginning our GSR has evolved into a much grander thing that has helped many people in many ways, and it has done so for many years.

GSR today is far larger than it was when I joined in 1998, but I know i and my family greatly benefitted from the help offered by others.
Due to that, I have devoted many hours and my own money to try to repay the help I got,, especially in those early years.

Today, I have a great depth of feeling for Americans who have been so very, very, harshly treated by their Administration..

NBC has provided a possible option where help may be obtained.

NBC says there is a US Agency that may be of help, so if you, or someone you know, is one of those check it out. I sincerely hope it will help you.

There was once a time when determining what was political and what was not was reasonably straightforward. This is not that time.

Elon Musk is not a politician. He is not an official or even an employee of a political party or of the government. Yet his actions are severely impacting the government. And he has the approval of many politicians.

Is losing one's government job political? It is if you hold an appointed position; it is expected that you will no longer hold that job when the person who appointed you leaves their office. But what if you are a civil service employee who has worked for many years under administrations of both parties? If a GSR member working for the government were to lose his job could he only post his plight in Vortex?

If a driver runs a stop sign and kills a motorcyclist that is not political and can be discussed anywhere in off site, no question. But what if the driver is a politician? Does that mean it can only be mentioned in Vortex? If a private citizen commits treason we discuss that anywhere, but if a politician does it that can only be in Vortex? What about Medicare/ Medicaid cuts that affect GSR members? Where could those be discussed?

I really don't like to have to parse this sh!t out. But we are living in exceptional times that I could not even imagine when I first signed up for GSR or to be a moderator. My intent has always been to maintain some sort of rational civility in which information can be exchanged and opinions can be discussed That is not going to be easy in the coming weeks and months, possibly years.

I am going to have to make many calls I wish I didn't have to make. No one is going to agree with all of them them but everyone must abide by them. There is no plan B. And if anyone wants to help on maintaining the civil order thing by defusing situations rather than further inflaming them that would be greatly appreciated.

There is the problem. Nobody asked for help. If someone had posted that they lost their job and weren't sure what to do, your post would have been left in place. Absent that it was at least a politically adjacent post that served no purpose except riling up the usual suspects. I left a one week redirect in Campfire so anyone who might want that information would be taken to it.

Ed, you are going to have to accept that these are not normal times politically and that much of what this current administration does and the effects it will have on citizens including GSR members may be beyond political and could be appropriate for Campfire discussion.
