They don't make 'em like that any more

She and her husband were the first people to travel the length of the Americas in an amphibious vehicle. But he was recognized for their accomplishments long before she was.

Well, I'd say Kira Salak is up there, but Schreider was definitely a great adventurer.

I'd be more impressed if they completed the journey on a PoGo Stick.

I identify as a man but according to the label on a box of Stauffers Baked Lasagne I'm actually a family of four

The impressive part (for me) was doing it in a surplus Jeep amphibian - and island hopping around the Caribbean on it. By the looks of it, it was as seaworthy as a commode.

My understanding is that there's about 125 miles of impassable and unbuildable swamp keeping a road from being built to connect north with south America, I just assumed they used that rig to cross it. Using it as a boat to go around it sounds like the sane way to bypass the problem, pretty hard to get road side service down that way.

            I had a friend I met in early 1980s.
We became friends partly because we both rode motorcycles, but I was never in her league.

She went alone.....leaving Toronto to cross North America (Mexico is part of North America) and heading onwards to South America.....riding her old BMW.
Andrea had planned to go all around the world. She had plans and bookings made for her and the bike, but she never made it as the bike died in Chile and she had injuries and sickness.

Such an undertaking is perhaps not what you would expect of a woman, especially going alone, but Andrea was exceptional and she had some exceptional encounters and experiences along the way
