Speaking of early '80's, I'm in the Ritz in Manhattan (wildest place ever; sex and drugs not only permitted and encouraged inside and out, but while you were paying your $20 entrance fee at the box office). I pull up on super-loud Kaw 900 with girl on back, jeans and black leather. We fit the profile of their preferred clientele.
I hear them telling three males it's a private party. They wave us through. I'm leaning against the bar drinking and watching a wild video of Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics. "That's wild," I say. Bartender points toward the stage and says, "Look!"
There they are live, she's got a guitar on saw horses and a chain saw.
I think one of the things that made that place so great was that even after they had to stop selling liquor at 2AM, they kept the lights and the music going till between four and five. They used to advertise that they had the "world's largest video screen." A guy with a live cam would circulate through the dance floor and you'd see yourself 100 feet tall.
A mutual friend introduced me to Frank "The Freak" Infante (Blondie). Once at closing time they announce, "Remember Monday night is white night - wear white clothes, bring white friends, do white drugs."1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red
2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.
