The Cassowary is like a big Chook. Loopies, (tourists), if they see one on the side of the road they stop and often try to feed them from their cars. The birds start to relate cars to food and they can, and do, sometimes get aggressive looking for food. Generally they are harmless and if you stay your distance, don't ever feed them, they are no trouble. Don't always believe those TV specials, they have to dramatize and will embellish the truth. Although there have been deaths, the bigger percentage of attacks are human induced.....

      From Wikipedia
A 2003 historical study of 221 cassowary attacks showed that 150 had been against humans: 75% of these had been from cassowaries that had been fed by people, 71% of the time the bird had chased or charged the victim, 15% of the time they kicked. Of the attacks, 73% involved the birds expecting or snatching food, 5% involved defending their natural food sources, 15% involved defending themselves from attack, and 7% involved defending their chicks or eggs. Only one human death was reported among those 150 attacks.[40] The first documented human death caused by a cassowary was on April 6, 1926. In Australia, 16-year-old Phillip McClean and his brother, age 13, came across a cassowary on their property and decided to try and kill it by striking it with clubs. The bird kicked the younger boy, who fell and ran away as his older brother struck the bird. The older McClean then tripped and fell to the ground. While he was on the ground, the cassowary kicked him in the neck, opening a 1.25 cm (0.5 in) wound that may have severed his jugular vein. The boy died of his injuries shortly thereafter.[41].

Thanks. I drove to the baech last Monday hoping to get some snowy beach shots. The snow was a non event, but I saw some old roses laying in the sand. I did scatter the pedals and move the flowers a bit.

The very late afternoon weather was miserable. Cold, gray, misty, and windy. It fit the scene well.

We've been watching this bank getting ready to collapse for a while. Today we crossed the river valley on a back road and hiked up about 1,200 feet to get a better look at it. It's about 300 yds long and the slumping at the deepest point is about 20-25 feet. This has all happened in the 18 - 24 months. Yikes, we've got a bit of a lottery going on about what date it's going to go. The earth on the move.

Drop of Doom by soates50, on Flickr

On the way up the we spotted this lynx on the trail ahead of us. We were just going up to shoot the Drop of Doom and had my camera buried in my pack. Dumb move. We were going to just carry on but the lynx didn't seem to concerned about us being there so I dropped the pack and fished out the camera and changed lenses. By that time he started walking away but then hunkered down momentarily in this brush but unfortunately I spot focused just over his head and then he got up and left. Lesson learned .....be prepared or you'll blow the shot. Should of known better.

Yes, for the perfect pair theme. I had a tough time thinking of something. This sort of evolved. It was originally going to simply be helmet and gloves for safety minded motorcyclists.
