Last 2 trucks I've totaled, I took lesser amount from ins. & kept. First was my Toyota Tacoma, ins. $$$ plus $$$ I sold it for was more than I had paid for it 10 yr. earlier, but Tacoma's had really gone up in price for those 10 yrs. 2nd was my Dodge Ram, wife totaled it appx. 10 yrs. ago & had fixed by an independent body man that worked from his house (shop), using after mkt. & salvage parts. I'm still driving it today with no problems. Just something else to mull over.

Here in California, there are no vehicle inspections other than tail pipe emission (smog) checks. I've seen all variety of vehicles in FAR WORSE condition that this one going down the road for extended periods of time. There was one vehicle I used to see regularlly where the entire side of the vehicle was smashed. There was plastic duct taped where the windows used to be, and a red shop rag taped over the busted tail lamp lense.

The best thing I have found I got at the auto parts store. It's called PlastX, works very well. I watched my son clear up a pair of foggy lights using Deep Woods Off. No kidding just wiped it on, left it set a few minutes & wiped it off.

I got the estimate back from the body shop. @$5600.00. Haven't heard back from the insurance Co though. Add to that, my kid didn't go to school last Thursday and Friday, complained of headaches. We got him to the ER on Saturday. Whiplash, but at least no concussion. He didn't tell us he hit his head off the driver's side window till the day after. He's seeing PCP today to see about any treatment he may need.

Spoke too soon. Primary Care Physician today says Noah has a concussion. Don't know what he saw the doc at the emergency room didn't.

Gosh one of the forst things they ask is "did you hit your head?" "Did you lose consciousness?" anyway at 5600 its most likely a write off.

Rich, concussions don’t always show up right away depending on the severity of the hit. Good on all three of you for watching for the signs.
