According to the Life Insurance And Market Research Association (LIMRA), 69% of Americans retire by age 66.Komorebi-The light filtering through the trees.

According to Statistics Canada, the average retirement age in Canada is just over 63 and a half years. For self-employed people, it's 68, and for federal employees, it's age 61 and a half years. Private sector employees tend to work almost to age 65.No signature :(

Funny retirement came here, been talking with two neighbors contemplating about it.
One is 59 and quit his job of 22 years and started a new job.
But he's thinking about going ahead and Starr receiving retirement from his old job?
He said right now he could take the old jobs retirement and get $1400 month, or wait until 62 when it maxes out and get 1700? And not touch 401,457 until he wants?
He told me if he takes it now, for three years it would be about forty grand...starting at 62 he'll never get it???

The guy that got me a job at my current shop 30 and counting years ago retired last year on April fools day at 59. A plumber by trade, he was planning to do small jobs for a few years until full benefits kicked in.sigpic

I'm still doing enough to keep me active and reasonably healthy, so should extend the time left.
At the time the first stats came out, it was mostly referring to people who'd been in a fairly manual job for 45+ years, then suddenly had nothing to do. About half of them were dead within three years.
Most of us aren't like that nowadays.Last edited by Grimly; 12-27-2021, 11:28 PM.---- Dave
