Heard a short story on the local news about the convoy stop at, guess this, CUBA MO. They have a bit of a different message than the protest in Canada. Pretty reasonable and SANE sounding!

On another note, you just may want to take a look at what happened with the presidential election in Belarus, where the election really was stolen!

Can you even say that an election was stolen, if the country already belonged to the Dear Leader? Before, during and after any election, Russia already belonged to Putin. Same in China, Philippines, Turkey, Egypt, North Korea...

        I miss Brezhnev.

Rigging an election is one thing, winning it and NOT allowing the winner to take office is another animal all together!

If Putin can't have his major political opponents tossed of a balcony, shot or poisoned he just tosses them in prison on some fabricated charge.
I recall during the last election a CBC crew actually filmed a bus load of Putin supporters bused from one polling station to another so they could cast multiple votes.

Funny thing about wannabe dictators - their first step is always, "Maybe we should postpone the election, at least until we're sure it's safe."

'America's Mayor' (Rudy Giuliani) suggested delaying the NY City mayoral election right after 9/11. Declaring martial law and redoing, or recounting the election was also an idea being floated around the Donald's inner circle.

I think a real danger here is Putin won't want to loose face and a desperate man will do desperate things. Is he capable of the Nuclear option, he has threatened it and Belarus has withdrawn from not hosting nuclear weapons in their country. With the damage to the nuclear power plant, Intentional or not), he doesn't care enough and a lot of his soldiers have put down their arms and this is going to up his anxiety levels more............

We are in the midst of WW3.........

I really don't think Putin's got 100% power to launch a nuke now. If he were to try to use a nuke right now, without first use by another nation (or some other extreme provocation), I believe one or more generals would refuse, and they would put him someplace where he could get lots of rest.

Then a few little Hitlers would fight it out, a regular 'Arab Spring,' but not much would change. "Meet the new boss..."

What happened in Zimbabwe in 2017 with Robert Mugabe was interesting. He "resigned" and was gently ushered into a face-saving cushy retirement and given immunity for his innumerable horrific crimes.

The military was involved, so it was considered a coup, but the transition was pretty much non-violent. Whether the new boss is any better than the old boss I don't really know for sure, but it's probably impossible to be much worse.

The Chinese swear they were not involved, but they did have an awful lot of meetings with the main opposition, and this all sounds like a very Chinese way to do things.

Most dictators-for-life are removed with an application of high-speed lead, ordnance, or even a rope. But sometimes retirement and perhaps exile, but letting them get away with their crimes, can help prevent further violence. Ferdinand Marcos and Napoleon come to mind.

Yeah that's some sticky stuff and a slippery slope at the same time. There could be some good that came out of things we can't see from our perspective, the war on drugs comes to mind. We've (The U.S.) facilitated the importation of cocaine and heroin while building a law enforcement and punishment system to deal with consequences of that. But to what end?

If you increase the influence of the U.S. dollar in countries that are anti-american or anti-capitalist in general it helps fund rebel groups who can overthrow the status quo. Let's face it, nice people sitting at a negotiating table is best but if you can't get people to the table having some bad-asses around can be a good thing to get that mess cleared up. Another consideration is what you learn by busting an illegal operation, there's plenty of new innovative ways people use to move the drugs, the money and all the other associated things involved in such an operation. There's a lot of useful knowledge being gained! Let's face it, heartless people with a one track mind make great businessmen to get things going once the smoke clears and a new order is being established.

So it might look like Mugabe "Got away with it" but there could be other aspects to the story we're not privy to. After all, Pablo Escobar built hospitals, schools, public parks and social service systems when the Columbian government wasn't. If he'd enjoyed his retirement instead of pushing his luck, there's a good chance he'd still be alive today.

Well they have to be careful what they say...
Russia’s lower house of Parliament unanimously passed a law punishing any actions aimed at “discrediting” Russia’s armed forces during the war in Ukraine with 15 years in prison. The law could take effect as soon as Saturday. The government has said that even referring to what it calls a “special military operation” as a “war” or “invasion” amounts to disinformation. The threat of the law has already pushed Russian independent news media outlets to shut down in recent days..
