Just paid $160 for my weekly groceries. If that's the extent of my sacrifice, it's a small price to pay.

I too thought, great, what good will sanctions do? He kills his brother and gets his allowance taken away? What good is that?

Sanctionqs are certainly more than an inconvenience now.

Just filled the gas tank and prices are up and going higher. $3.47 at Costco, near $4.00 elsewhere.
Glad you got the refinance done! Congrats.

I just filled wife's car with 4 gallons...just topping it up! $3.79/Gallon in Delaware.

The beginning of the end of an energy superpower. Economics at work. Not a half bad read.
Russia's status as an energy superpower is headed toward collapse following the invasion of Ukraine, analysts say, as Europe accelerates alternatives to its oil and natural gas and Western companies end financial and technological support for projects.

Putin said that the sanctions already imposed are a " declaration of war " .... Excellent d!ckhead ! ...You're getting the message ......
The Russian president also warned against any attempt to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

We definitely do not want to do anything he can use to help rally his countrymen around him. That means we must keep on board with us the other countries of the world participating in those sanctions.

This is likely the best course of action. A opportunity was missed after the USSR collapsed to welcome Russia to a world community. Russians will in time turn against oppression and that could be accelerated by making it plain that there is a world ready to help. Violence is a spiral begetting more hatred that lasts generations.

Yes so sad to see a lot of hate spewing kids on the internet who dont recall the collapse or care. Gorbachev is 90 now and likely hated in russia by most. IIRC the rise of the oligarchs has more to do with the abject poverty that arose post 91 than any business acumen on their part.

As long as it results in Putin never being able to do this BS anywhere, to anyone, at any time again.

Diesel was $4.29 a few days ago when I stopped to refuel. Sadly I hit Kroger’s debit card limit of $125 without even fully filling up despite using a 10-cent discount. I noticed today diesel is now $4.79.

I had a lot of respect for him after his response to the nuclear arms treaties and the fall of the wall in the late 80s and early 90s. However that is now gone after watching an interview with him on Sky News a few days ago. He claimed the United States developed and used the atomic bomb in Japan solely to force the world to do its bidding.

Petrol here has just hit $8.31 gal US and going to go higher.

I'm somewhat gratified to hear the Russian ambassador to Dublin say that Ireland is at the forefront of anti Russian activities in Europe and that we are very aggressive. He is referring to this priest taking violence in European cities to a new and unprecedented level.

Throwing red paint on metal gates? Hardly qualifies as violence. Vandalism, peaceful protest. I remember when PETA activists were throwing red paint on people (who were wearing fur). That's violence.

As much as I despise that union busting B movie actor who was elected POTUS 52 years ago, we all knew it was just a clear statement of fact when he called Russia an "evil empire."

That's probably redundant. Can anyone think of an empire that wasn't evil?

                              Couple of cool things yesterday.
Driving towards DC on I-66, once I got inside the beltway almost every overpass had the US flag and the Ukrainian flag draped on them side by side.
And at a concert last night, the orchestra played both the American and Ukrainian anthems.

Hopefully little indications of broad and deep support.

Empires never see themselves as evil just superior to everyone else as they invade neighbours looting, raping, killing as they occupy other peoples lands. Then they erect statues of the mass murders that created their empires and slaughtered those that resisted. Victors get to write history not losers. Genghis Khan, Caesar, Alexander, Tamurlane, Charles the Great and just about any other conquering hero were all genocidal murderers.
