The world economic situation, sanctions, the war in Ukraine, they're all intertwined.
The Chinese government just had the sort of impact on markets that the Federal Reserve can only dream about. In short, good news.

A timeline of Ukraine preparation for war with Russia. It shows why they have been as successful as they have. I found it particularly interesting.

Good article on "the Dictator Trap"
Reality doesn’t conform to the theory of the rational, calculating despot who can play the long game.
the Ezra Klein Podcasts are very good, here's one with Timothy Snyder, a historian and leading expert on Ukraine. I've read two of his books, "Bloodlands" and "On Tyranny", both excellent.
The renowned historian on Putin’s myths, Ukrainian identity and the West’s “politics of inevitability.”
That may be behind a paywall, not sure. I read the transcripts as that's a lot faster. He also did an interview with Fiona Hill last week, also very good.'20 Ducati Multistrada 1260S, '93 Ducati 750SS, '01 SV650S, '07 DL650, '01 DR-Z400S, '80 GS1000S, '85 RZ350

The Chinese are the all-time masters of bureaucracy, the long con, and playing all sides of an issue, and they think in centuries, not quarterly revenue. They might send a few old trucks or something, just enough to string the Russians along.
Basically they'll stall until whatever happens happens, then make money and gain influence from it. Post-Putin Russia will need a LOT of goods and machinery to rebuild the shambles of their economy, so they'll sign any old promise to get what they need. China can't lose here. No one else will trust Russia at all for a long time.
China has long been in the process of loan sharking on a grand scale in Africa -- they're pouring resources into building infrastructure and influence, knowing full well that the leaders they're dealing with don't care about actually making payments and will default, then China can secure whatever terms they want from the next guy.
Russia is an even tastier plum; a well-educated, skilled workforce, suddenly thrown into vast disarray, with a nearly valueless currency, and desperate to agree to anything to get the necessities of daily life. They will very likely not trust Europe or North America in the least, and the feeling will be mutual.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

But if they are the master race, I surrender!
