Not sure I agree that the tide will turn back to in person interaction. We are steadily going in the opposite direction:

    1) In-home shopping

    2) Home schooling

    3) Work from home

    It's getting really bad........

I think we need to better at identifying issues that are right in front of us....learn to deal, I guess.

Love your optimism, LAB; give you steep odds that don't work out, though (that's legal now ).

      Good on you, Trent.

Oh, seen the tiny little automatics with 100 shot capacity? Only 75 of them in a car. Everybody's welcome in New York!

And another young woman just died under similar circumstances as Miss USA.

Re that social media stuff, I just heard the term "rage farming". Any day I learn new words is a good day.

Let's let our recent history be a guide here. The "Greatest generation" made it through The Great Depression and WWII, millennials had Iraq and the economic collapse of 2008 to form their view of the world. They grew up in a general state of hopelessness for the future, combine that with an ever pervasive culture of conformity being built in the name of diversity and their kids are going to end up seeing a world that we won't be much different than the one boomers saw. Whatever it is we call this new generation (those who have most recently been born) they will see the emptiness this has brought to the lives of their parents and will grow to resent it. How this plays itself out still remains to be seen but my best guess is they'll be looking for something more REAL than the emptiness presented to them by The Metaverse.

              Just like us!

But I'm an optimist. I think Detective ('retired') Bernstein said it best: "Every day above ground is a good day."

Let's hope, yes, but...do you honestly think they will? Fentanyl? Feh! Carfentanyl! Parafentanyl! Fural Fentanyl!

                      1) Jeff Bezos needs another rocket trip.

                      2) Trumpers love it (for obvious reasons).

                      3) For some; Many are doing a mix or are back in the office (or, for those who understand education, back in the classroom).

                      LAB is correct on this.

I've been trying to understand your last post, 1150Pilot, so correct me where I'm wrong.

                        1) Bezos needs another rocket trip, which can't be done in home. Is that what you meant?

                        2) Trumpers love what? Face to face, because Jan. 6 (or any rally) can't be done at home? Something like that?

                        3) Practically all kids prefer, and need, in person education, and many adults who don't need to go back to the office are choosing to do so.

If I'm following correctly, you believe the pendulum is swinging, or will swing back from this online brink for the above reasons?

                        Of course,

                        1) The money for that rocket came from online activity.

                        2) The organizing power for rallies, target shooting, whatever, comes from online activity.

And number 3, if I understood you correctly, I agree with.

                        How'd I do?

Rob, you quoted VMass before me. I responded to his post, which was, ultimately a sort of soft defense of social media as an inevitability.

                          1. Amazon caters to people who don't want to go out of their homes and who don't want to support local business.
                          2. The Trump right-especially the religious right-loves homeschooling; that way, they can omit inconvenient truths and create alternate narratives.
                          3. 'Nuf said.

LAB has a valid opinion on this and I understand you agree with his opinion. With that said, we will not know if he is correct for many, many years.

My # 2 was not clear, by " Home Schooling " I was referencing the latest trend of remote learning due to Covid. Just like the work from home trend, I will not be surprised to see some permanent changes to due to what we have learned over the past 3 years.

I envisage it this way, next level of post-social social interaction will take place as an holographic representation of oneself, conveyed to the interlocutor, as far away as you can think of.
