BUMP! Just checking in really. Pics soon. Have rims, hubs, and backing plates powder-coated gloss black. Have new sprocket bushings pressed in and new AllBalls wheel bearings on the way. Tapered roller neck bearings also. Got the sprocket bushings from http://www.scottpowersports.com/ because they had in stock the bearing retainer nut I trashed while removing it. Looking for a larger rear sprocket. Any sources? As soon as the bearings arrive and I press them in, I'll call Buchanans and order spokes. Then remove the front end and start on it. Trying to decide between gloss black, flat black, and silver for the sliders. The trees will likely be silver. New gaiters.

Great service from AllBalls Racing on the bearings. Got my order in 3-4 business days. Can't speak to the quality, because I've never used their stuff before, but I checked all the dimensions before I installed it, and it was all spot on. Wheel bearings and seals are pressed in. Fork tubes are removed. Saved the gaiters, although I'm sure they won't last long if I reuse them. Will probably buy new ones, depending on the price. The upper parts of the fork tubes are rusty above the sliders, so I'll be reinstalling the gaiters and headlight brackets. Maybe remove the ears from the brackets.

Finally got the wheels laced up. They look good, but I kinda wish I'd gone with the semi-gloss powdercoat, or maybe even flat. This gloss black is gonna be a bear to keep shiny.

HOLY COW!! What an awqesome diffence from the day one pics!! Simply beautiful. Bet your glad you did the powder coating.

Take tha advice of Larry ( nvr2old ) on he use of the micro fibre cloths and some good Carnuba wax. They shine and buff without leaving streaks or any sort of marks.

Been really busy with work the last few months. Not much bike work, or riding, getting done. Got hold of an industrial parts tumbler. Dropped a few of my funkiest parts in with some glass beads and walked away for a few hours. Came back to this. The stuff looks really good. I'll be using this to clean all of my small parts. Might try out some different media. Frame may be going to the powdercoater late this week.

Finally got it down to the bare frame. Taking the frame, swingarm, and motor mounts to pc'er this week. Can't decide on a color. Black? Silver? A combination of the two? I definitely will not go with the gloss black I used on the wheels.

No opinion on the color? I'm kinda digging silver, but I wanted to do silver on the tank. Like the Elsinores from the early '70s, but I'm up for anything.

If it was my bike, I would stay with the black frame. Cant go wrong with any color for the tank and panels when nestled against the black backdrop..in my opinion.

Went with a semi-gloss black. Should jive well with the gloss black wheels and silver tank. Got a 2 week wait.

Got the trees blasted and painted. I use Dupli-Color caliper paint for stuff like this. I glass bead then rinse with water, blow dry then use the recommended spray cleaner. It always looks good. Cell phone pics don't show the color well. It's a straight silver. Should get the frame back from the powdercoater this week. Got All-Balls tapered roller neck bearings ready to go in. Might start shopping for SS Allen screws to put it together.

Got the frame back yesterday. Looks really good. Put the new All-Balls tapered rollers in the neck today. Followed the directions for measuring the bearing stack height. It worked, but I wish I had a little more clearance at the bottom bearing. Between the neck and the tree. I used the supplied thin spacer, going with the thicker one would have opened it up a little more. Top pic shows the gap I'm talking about. Bottom pic shows the spacer. Next time I'll throw out the directions and measure it my way.

Frame looks really good. Went with silver for the rear peg mounts. I'd like to leave them off, but they tie in with the swingarm and shifter. I was also planning bronze swingarm bushings, but then I realized these are steel. The low miles on the bike, plus the fact that this will be an off-road bike, led me to just leave 'em alone. Wish the powdercoater had been more careful with my VIN plate.

Has the "other projects" section gone dead? It seems almost as slow as the HondaTwins forum.

I'm still following... unfortunately my little Cucciolo project is just idling away with nothing happening at the moment. Can't seem to get any success getting my shed underway and I can't do much until that's done.
