    my latest project

Well I finally got back into dual sport riding.
I got rid of my 83 XL600 after she left me stranded after too much time and substantial $$ put into her.
So 3 years go by and I have a good week @ work with major OT
Look in my local CL and found a 1976 Yamaha DT400 with 9600 miles for $400.
Perfect, a buck a CC, just the way I like them.
Went right over.Last tagged in 2008 but 2nd owner who bought it in 1980. Started up and ran after a few kicks.
Put some dough down and picked up last night.
A true barn find and a diamond in the rough but she has a ton of potential. Does not look to ever had a major accident.
    No bent bars,rims or forks.
A little cosmetic and fluid change and I will see how she goes.
Tomorrow plan on getting new transmission and injection oil, spark plug, air filter and fork oil.
Already got some paint to touch her up
I still have chain lube hanging around.

And oh yeah, the seat is going to be recovered

My first "legal" bike was a 1978 DT250. This was back in 1983
Been a while but glad to get back on a Yamaha 2 stroke.

That's exactly what I wanna do if/when I get a little extra cash. Have a few too many other things going on to have that extra something right now.

Looks like a fun project. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

    Keep us updated.

Well after most of the day, I am at a pretty good point.

      Mechanically:
      Installed new spark plug
      Cleaned carb and reeds
Changed oils and installed fresh gas.
Removed a ton of rat poison pellets throughout the intake system. Including the carb and into the reeds.
Thank goodness for the reeds, otherwise they probably would have gotten sucked into the motor

      Cosmetically:
Painted the gas tank, oil tank, fenders, headlight bucket and exhaust.
Washed the whole bike, many times and removed quite a bit of old mud and crud.

After all this, I kicked her over and she took right off.
Gonna be blast once I get her plated and legit.

On order is a new air filter as the old one was in pieces with the above mentioned rat poison.
