Calipers broke down and cleaned out. Looked like they had just been redone actually but I had to check for my own piece of mind. The first golden rule..NEVER assume anything..always do the checks!!!!

Got new rubber today and mounted the rims. Also replaced the fuel lines and added a new fuel filter. Left caliper was weeping a bit around the piston seal so I broke it down and replaced that also. Rebled the system and let it sit for about half an hr and the drop that was on the floor never returned so I think it all good now.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

HMMMMMM..it is SUPPOSED to smoke!!!
Found this service bulletin from back in 1975 concerning the smoke from the left I experienced. What do you know..it is supposed to smoke!!! Glad the valve stem seals arent the problem.

They were new ones on the bike but I checked at NAPA and they are 19.00 each. PM STEVE and he has the part numbers. He sent them to me in a PM but I dont have that PM anymore. The case seals ate reusable if the rubber isnt all brittle.
Gonna need to take the radiator bolts out and the lower hose to get the bolts out of the cover..they are like 3 inches long. Take the bolts out and pull the lower hoses. To drain the block and radiator you need to take the rersivour cap off so it doesnt syphon that out, Remove the radiator cap and on the front of the engine is the water pump...drian bolt at the very bottom. Drain it down and then remove the hose. At this point I would just put in fresh antifreeze. Be sure to use aluminum safe juice.
Do the refill just like a car..top off the radiator and start it till the thermostat opens and then level things off.
If you would like to borrow my service manual let me know. PM me your addy.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Thanks for the info Chuck. Looks like I am going to hit a paperwork SNAFU head on. This guys grandpa died left the bike to his uncle. Uncle traded it to his dad for a horse. Mom/Dad then divorced. No one knows where the paperwork is, death certificate, ect that was needed to transfer title. Mom told son to take the bike. Now the guy can't get anyone to work with him on getting the title, and these are all family members too. Plus it occurred (death of grandpa) in another state so someone must go back there to work it out. I am wondering if it is even worth buying for parts. I am going to look at it Tuesday

Yeah still have it. Put nearly 1,000 miles on it in October going to The Harvest Classic down in Lukenbach Texas. Its a dang comfy ride and I didnt get the seat fatigue that I have gotten on a few of my GSs. Few times I was running at 90 and it was like butter. Its not going anywhere anytime soon.
If you do get it the offer for use of the service manual stands...just let me know.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

If you get it I have a bunch of sites saved and I can hook you up with a lot of info and save you lots of grief finding stuff. Not a hard bike to work on by any means. Carbs come out pretty straight forward and easy. One thing I would do while the carbs are out is to redo the orings on the antifreeze cross over tubes. I did mine after they started leaking without removing the carbs....can be done but WAY easier without them in.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Thanks for the offers of help Chuck. I looked at the bike today and did buy it but it will never be put back on the road. The seller overstated it's niceness and it's missing too many keys parts (and also has no paperwork) to try and put back on the road. Parts bike. Turned out to be a 77' by the way
