      The 'hope" for the next 2 days is get the carbs redone and the harness in and all connected. Check functions and go for a start by the end of Sunday. If all goes well there just may be a video on the horizons.

        I think your battery is in backwards. At least it is relative to my Kawasaki.

          Nope. The Neg goes to the right and Pos to the left. If you look at the pic from the left side you should see the red rubber cap for the Pos lead going down to the starter selenoid.

            Today i got the harness in and everything hooked up and checked for functionality. All is good to go. Got the carbs reassembled and mounted. Ordered in some 7MM plug wire from Orielleys so that will be tomorrows project. Oils in the crankcase and soon as the coils are rewired and mounted, its go time!!!

              Got some heat in the jugs today....BUT. Yeah there's always something right?? At lower RPMs ( idle to around 1200 ) there's some valve noise around cylinder 2 ..definitely on the left side of the bike. Top end in the head and thankfully not below in the crank. Don't hear it once its above 2,000ish. So I pulled the cover and triple checked again for the 5th time to see that the "T" mark on the crank and the arrows on the cams were correct and they were. Also verified the pins count between the cams....spot on.

              I am left with the only conclusion is the clatter is loose shims and the buckets are noisy on the cams I will recheck the shims tomorrow after its cooled down again. The carb throttle linkage just barely scrapes the cam chain tunnel on the head..so maybe i seated them too deep. Dont know but i took them off and filed down that side of the linkage a tad. Its on the pusher side so it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't drag and hang up.

              When the carbs came off I put my hand over all the intake manifolds and cranked it over and got real good suction on the palm from all 4 cylinders so I think the valves themselves are fine.

                Been 6 days since I was told the replacement shims were shipped..nothing in todays deliveries USPS now does parcel delivery on Sundays so if they arent here tomorrow I will have to call and see whats up.

                  Shims from Z1 arrived. Unfortunately I am fighting the flu bug. Last nights temp was 101.7 so I called in to work today. Maybe this weekend I will feel better and get it done.

                    Its running but the points are in real bad shape. Gonna get new stuff ordered and Im sure that gonna drastically improve its starting ease and make getting the timing right much easier. But it runs on its own after many many years setting dormant. Click the video link below.

                    Got a exhaust leak at the crossover pipe. Soon as the engine cools down I will get after that as well.

                        Its rough...and the new points will help. Fix the exhaust leak and thats even more improvement. Goal was to get it running and thats been accomplished. Cant do much about needing parts.

                          Sounds fine to me. Good job chuck. The 650 engine has a primary drive chain so the engine has that customary characteristic sound. It's a little clattery but it grows on you.

                            Its not smooth as far as the RPMs goes Ed. The points are definitely burnt and crappy just by looking at them. It will run real decent when its dead cold, but as the heat builds up and electricity is flowing, it starts to act like its hunting to keep time..follow me here? I am also thinking sourcing some new coils wouldnt be a bad idea as well. But for now, its running and will be what it is.

                            Gonna get the pipes loosened up and see whats leaking at the crossover gasket area. New points and condensors are ordered.

                              On my 750 it was a struggle to get the exhaust pipes sealed at the head. Wound up using both an OEM copper crush gasket and a fiber/steel mesh gasket stacked together.
