My other bike and future project

Figured I would share my other future project bike with you guys.

From what I understand it is a 1976 Honda GL 1000 Goldwing, I was my dad's and he customized it in almost every aspect, from what I have been told from my mom he had to many lights and the alternator was having problems keeping up. It has been sitting for the past 15yrs or so. Its gonna need some work and money that I don't have now. I hope to restore it to the way he had it, paint job needs to be touched up and pretty much everything mechanically will be gone through.

Started the teardown yesterday and then finished today. I pulled off the saddlebags, trunk and all that stuff on the back end took of the false tank covers and the other side cover and the fairing. Its gonna be a huge project, love my dad but he was one of the owners that rigged it to make it work, instead of finding a long enough stud to go through everything he attached to the top of the rear shocks he tack welded the nut. The wiring its a huge cluster **** and I am pretty sure the vetter fairing mount could be mounted better than with just hose clamps.

Anyway heres some picture goodness. Got myself a money pit.

You may want to touch base with Chuck Hahn. He has a beautiful wing of similar vintage.

I'm not sure about your vintage wing, but if you do a google search there are people putting Denso automotive 40 amp alternators on Goldwings. It's pretty simple and some are selling mounting kits. I bought a GM style mini that I'm putting between the jugs on an early 80's Guzzi, it cost me 70 bucks new on fleabay.

Thanks for the tip! This will be a long process, financially I cannot restore it to the point I want to over night and I want to do the work myself so I will take the time and do it right.

The wiring really needs a good going through alot of splices that are unnecessary from what I can tell

Those Scotchloks are gremlins, and it looks like they've reproduced wildly. Each and every one of them is waiting for an opportunity to **** you off and set you up for a long walk.

Thanks for the links! I will need to make sense of the wiring and try to minimize while keeping the lights operational. Hopefully I can switch them to LED.

And I do plan on soldering and heat shrinking what I can while adding some disconnects to make removal of everything simpler in the future.

The reference to putting on a Denso alternator is primarily for the GL1200's - It is called the Poor Boy conversion.
For the most part a new stator and R&R will rejuvenate the electrical system on the GL1000 -
