      First outing at a local track. Turned out not too bad as a club racer - and fast enough to be competitive at our National level.

        I don't think he made it quite that far, lol. He still has the motor and frame tucked away.

          I had the 72 R5, slick little SOB. There is a 73 RD350 in my garage right now, belongs to a friend. Looks good, runs good but way too rich on the oil injection. PO got rid of the stock airbox stuff & put pods on it so the jetting is off at high speed. Man, those things were tight. I came out of the army in 73 and picked up the 1st year CB500 Honda 4, and got slapped down by a new RD350. It was embarrassing.

                Yes, I think that's an R5. The detailing on the crank case covers is different. Frankly, I think the R5 is the cutest one in the family. I would like that style tank and those side covers on my RD400. The white and gold is my favorite. I've never had an R5. Cycle called them, in the day, the closest thing to a perfect motorcycle available. No reed valves, a 5 speed, and drum brakes. They had horizontally split cases. The previous family of 2 stroke twins had vertically split cases. I bought a RD350 "for my wife" back in the 90s. I put Factory Pipe Products chambers and rearsets on it. I took off the seat cover, cut the seat down a little for her, and put the stock seat cover back on. A couple of unintended wheelies on it, and she had had enough of it. It came on to the pipe pretty hard. I think I paid $600 for a ready to ride decent looking bike back then. It was the maroon with two white stripes on each side of the tank, as I recall.

                  Definitely a 72 R5, it's exactly like the one I had. RD was faster, had a 6 speed.

                      Cool bike, Chuck. Should be a fun one to do, and a blast to ride. Is that mileage real..? It's like it was ridden for one weekend then abandoned to time.

                        Yes Larry..true life millage. Sat in a barn for close to 45 years. Last registration sticker on the forks was from June 1973. Absolutely unbelievable.

                              1972 Yamaha R5C first start up after 45 years in a barn. Last Oklahoma inspection sticker is dated June of 1973. 322 ORIGINAL miles !!!
