    82Seca 750

Just got this 82 Seca 750 that has literally been in a horse barn since 2008, 14,000 miles, hasn’t run since then. Got it home couple days ago and did a compression check, all ok. Looks like partial tear down and rehab. Not doing a total resto but rehab mechanically as necessary.Only negative is mufflers both rotted so I may do a Mac 4 to 2. Anyone happen to have a stock excellent condition exhaust set for this?

I did a Seca750 project a few years ago, came out great!
The bike has a few qualities good and bad. The OEM exhaust has a great snarl and the chrome is more durable than Suzuki, bummer yours is rusted out.
I hated the OEM bars, so I replaced them with Bikemaster Superbike bars.
The rear diff makes a loudish gear noise and that's normal, so don't worry about it.
Get XJ info from xjbikes.com/forums/ and XJ parts from http://www.xj4ever.com/
The early tech dash has an annoying oil warning light that's sucks.
Just take the bulb out behind the center warning light.

This’ll be my 3rd. I buy, refurbish and sell motorcycles. Other than the mufflers which will be replaced by the Mac the rest is just standard rehab on everything. All in great shape because of good storage. I look at a LOT of potential flips and you wouldn’t believe the terrible condition most are in. How about a CB 900 SS 12,000 mi.for $500? An 84 GPZ 900 9600m for $700.A couple GS Suzukis1100 and 850, $500 and $700. I passed on all of them due to condition. All were left outside not running for years. I ask myself how can someone buy a new shiny motorcycle, ride it for a few years and then basically throw it away. I keep these bikes in my paperwork in case I want to check on them later.

I have an exhaust but excellent is not what it is...

I have other parts too good seat, etc.. I picked it up to restore but far too many electrical gremlins and parted the bike to make up my investment.

If I can find an exhaust locally on the west coast I will, otherwise I’m going with the MAC 4 to 2

My head pipes cleaned up nicely and I found a guy locally with a real nice set of mufflers that I’ll be getting to put on.

My only qualm about buying a non running Yamaha from that time period is a known issue with 2nd gear not engaging, there's usually a reason a bike gets left parked a long time. Generally I like to hear the "mid life crisis that ran it's course and I gave up" story.

That’s exactly what happened. The family has a very busy horse farm and fall through spring weather in the NW being what it is he parked it in his office in the barn and forgot about it. His widow and his brother both say it ran perfectly when parked. I’ll be finding out soon.

Everyone should be very careful buying non running DOHC Honda 4's. They had serious issues with the #2 & 3 cylinders burning the exhaust valves due to lack of valve train maintenance. Fixing this is costly and if your flipping them, its gonna be tough to re-coup

But when they are in good order, they are some of the sweetest 80's sporting standards ever made.

Yes they are. Its a shame when bikes are not maintained properly. I still love the look of the 750/900/1100F's.
