And 9 in '79.
This bike is one that I've always wanted. They weren't spectacular performers, but I'm getting older anyway.

Yep, rare and collectible. I knew a guy who had one, he said it was pretty terrible to ride for any distance. But they are a good looking bike IMO.

The guy I got it from has had it sitting in his garage for 30 yrs.
I know two people who know, or knew, the original owner.
I'm not overly concerned if it just turns out to be a modified Sportster. It looks right.
Biggest pain is that it hasn't been registered in those 30 years. And sorting out the paperwork is likely to suck. The Three Horsemen

No title. No tags.
Have Bill of Sale, not that means anything to CA.
Think DMV will assess 30 years of back fees?

California dumps the vehicle from the system after something like 5-7 years unless it's PNO. I think the Bill of Sale will do (it might need to be notarized) , along with a Statement of Fact regarding where it's been stored. If it was PNO then you may have bigger troubles considered the owner is dead.Ed

I think going through one of the registration services might be the easiest option for me. Yeah, it costs money, but if I can get this titled in my name, its worth, it I think. The Three Horsemen

If it's out of the system more than 7 years it's just a case of filing paperwork.... simple enough. Get it insured, fill out some DMV paperwork (or I believe AAA can do it). They have a look at it to make sure the VIn & engine number is right & then you need to have a CHP inspection (to make sure nothing is stolen) before it gets its final tags.
It's a couple of hours work on a couple of days, hanging around but not difficult. Pretty typical of DMV sh*te...
10 years since I did it (Nessism advised me) but I don't believe it's changed...1980 GS1000G - Sold

AAA is the way to go for sure. They don't jerk you around like the DMV. Back when I was doing lots of bikes I joined AAA just so I could avoid the DMV. Nice comfortable seats and minimal wait, even without an appointment. Worst case they send you away with the proper forms and tell you what to do next time.Ed
