I considered buying one of those bikes brand new back in the day. Can't remember if it was an F1 or F2 though. Anyway, what I do remember is that the bike cost something like $4 or $4.5k and insurance was $2k. Apparently they figured the bike was going to get totaled within 2 years. I passed.Ed

Then there's that whole young, unmarried male on a massively powerful sport bike thing.
I think those are the two main reasons.1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

The 600cc market is entry level teen squids, so yeah the squid and his girlfriend got a 50/50 chance of annihilating themselves the first month of summer.1982 GS1100G- road bike

Some of the work detail
Now just doing examinations and planning.
Looks like it only needs about $500 of parts, and that includes: AMG battery, fork spring upgrade, chain & sprockets, rear tire, tank decals, gasket, and muffler.
I have PPG black, Chrysler Prowler red and clear coat on hand.
Original red wheels are under the spray bomb, comes off with solvent.
Bought this OEM right side mirror, will have to wait for a left side to show up.

A little mo naked.
Cleaned the wheels 95%, sanded and sprayed the brake and shift levers, kickstand, all were very rusty.

Working my way closer to the engine
Nice 4-1 header design, fits tight to the oil pan, lightweight but not too thin.

Valve adjustment chore…done!
Got into the valve adjustment chore, very good results!
Compression was so-so before adjustments. All the intake valves were too tight, and some exhaust valves. All set correctly now.
Compression across cylinders is; 1 to 4, 180-200-180-200 psi !!!
Got my bucket of soapy water and wiping away all the dust and dirt accumulation too.
