    85 ninja 600r

One of the first runs with the soft valves issue. Those had been replaced, new rings, basic full top end rebuild done years ago and the owner walked away and left it the shop. Its been in the old shop owners barn since he retired and vacated the building some 15 or more years ago. before that it sat in the back of the shop gathering dust. From what i can tell it appears to be all there and all original. Dropped 500 for it and it comes home Sunday. After the car wash i will take pics.

Idont know a value but i hear the vintage track guys take a shining to it seeing its the first gen ninja 60

    EDIT..YEAR CORRECTION. Its a 86 not 85

I agree. First gen. Definitely worth keeping. Good bikes.

Its not gonna be a keeper. Gonna clean it and address all issues such as brakes, carbs etc etc and put it to the masses

You bet we love those! Dominated the supersport 600, until the 87 Honda CBR600 Hurricane took supersport another leap forward.

No brakes, ding in tank, and broke turn signal lens all on the side facing the barn wall... no biggy issues. Rear seat a little beaten up but im sure there are seat covers out there to be had. Tank is spotless inside. Stock pipes and cans are really clean. Few scratches that look like it had been down once but not too hard. Nothing seems to be bent or broke as far as forks and front fender goes. Gonna need some cleaning and maintenance but it a true stock unmolested survivor for sure.

Since the valve issue has already been taken care of I think you have a winner. Those bikes are very nice looking and fun to ride.
Go through the carbs thoroughly and get the seat taken care of. Honestly, I'm a bit jelly.

WELL... The bikes fate has been decided. My plan is to do the restoration and donate it to the bike auction at next falls HARVEST CLASSIC rally. Its a rally dedicated to helping with childhood cancer issues for both the patient and the families. For those wanting to read about the rally heres the link to the website.

That's a pretty sweet-looking bike, and mighty fine of you for donating it to a good cause.

WELL SCHITTS. Today i took a picture of the VIN tag for the court ordered title paperwork and i noticed the label start out with "THIS 1986 MOTORCYCLE" meets EPA noise emmisions......... The date of manufacture says 08/85 though. So i guess its an 86 according to the EPA declaration label. A little air has escaped the balloon.

'85 or '86, why does this matter?

When I worked in the auto industry they commonly switched over to the new models during the july 4th shutdown period.

Its a "technicality" of sorts to me. 85 was the first year of production but the label says 86. Ive read about the first generation having the soft valve issue and that what this bike was brought in for and the valves were replaced. Maybe it is an 85???? Ive been googling and cant find any info about 86 bikes having the issue.

About an hour ago i fired the bike up for the first time in around 10 to 12 years. She smoked a bit from the oil i squirted in the holes a few days ago. i did a compression test yesterday and got just over 200 on three jugs and a tad over 175 on the other. still lots to do but she settled into a strong 1200 RPM idle very nicely

Hey Chuck, Thanx for the GPx fix!!!
All my bike money was spent on the kitchen this summer.
I'm hopin' for a respectable home for this bike someday.
