The KZs are pretty damned tough. Like people were telling you on that forum, something went way wrong from the inside, most likely, and it was unlikely to have anything to do with overfilling the motor."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Just looked on a micro fiche that is a insert bearing motor and it may have a broken rod bolt. Looking at where the hole is it lines up pretty well1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard

Seen that on a mates Yamaha 650 after it developed a bit of a rattle/knock. The rod busted just below the piston and flogged around on the big end punching two very similar holes in a split second before locking the back wheel in the oil trail. Very handy thing to happen. I wasn't there when it was pulled down, but the mechanics theory was that the rod may have been cast with a partial crack and a dropped/busted valve impacting with the piston crown caused the rod to break.Last edited by Guest; 06-30-2014, 01:01 AM.

From the OP link: "She starts/runs on all 4 cylinders which rules out timing, pistons, rings in my book."

Hydrolock would not cause that.
But, if you experienced a mild form of hydrolock, as you stated from leaving the fuel on, then you may have caused damage that only revealed itself at a latter point.
This is probably the result of a minor bend in the connecting rod from the hydrolock.
My theory,

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.
