    83 silverwing

    I'd like some feedback on a 83 Silverwing, GL650 for $700.00. I'm kind of interested.

    Rock solid dependability, smooth as butter, very comfortable, not very fast. My brother had one for several years. Put about 25,000 miles on it without issues.

    If it's got any signs whatsoever of leaking coolant, run away. Water pump failure is common on high mileage (60,000 + miles) examples, and requires a lot of teardown to get to.

      Half of the mechanical seal can be replaced in-frame; that did it for mine.
      Otherwise, the engine has to be dropped.
      Only pink coolant is recommended by Honda because of this.

        Aluminum safe coolant is what I run in my winger. I get it at Orielleys.

          My son in Bellingham forwarded it to me off CL in Everett, Wa. Looks good. I'll talk with him and see if he can look at it. If I go for it I'll have to pay to import it.

                  86 that windshield, put a set of non-Purple Rain handlebars on that, and it would be a pretty damned cool commuter.

                    Bike is in great shape. I bought it this spring and haven't got the time I thought I would have. There are 33921 original miles. I'm the second owner. I had new tires and brakes installed and all the fluids changed as well as a thorough checkout top to bottom, when I bought it, about 600 miles ago. Everything works perfectly. It has a radio, security system, cruise control and highway foot pegs in addition to the factory farring with windshield, 2 hard side removable saddlebags and another storage compartment on the back with a passenger backrest. The only thing wrong with this bike is a small tear in the seat leather that has been covered and is hard to spot. It is ready for you to hit the road with as it right away. There is still plenty of riding time for someone to get some good time in with yet this year. Nice bike. I hate that I haven't got time for it! Cash only. Any questions just ask.

                      I think my brother usually got about 45-50mpg with combined riding in town and on highway.

                      His was configured without all the luggage, like the maroon one.

                            "The GL worked perfectly. It purred the entire distance. Totally reliable and was a comfortable ride behind the fairing at 100kph. One mirror did readjust itself in gusts until I tightened it - that's it. Averaged 64.5 m/imp.gal. The traffic on most of the trip was fairly light being before the holiday season. The last few hours was more congested but southern Ontario drivers are noticeably better than here. "
