    New toy- KZ1000 Police

I know nothing about KZs... but I knew nothing about GS until after I bought one, so I think I'll get her running soon enough. It sat 5-10 yrs.

I've had 5 minutes to spend on it:
12900 miles. Was a Matawan NJ police bike. ( I grew up 5 miles from there )
Tires go flat in 2 days.
Calipers and M/C are all shot.
"Air cleaner rack" in bag, carbs will have to be cleaned. ( of course )
Chrome is a little rough, but OK from 20 feet.
      Pipes are better than expected.
Gas tank is super clean !!!
The PO had rear bags, and more lights, but no one knows where "Uncle" put them. They are gone.
Also waiting for the title to be found.
Not bad for a freebie !

12,900 miles seems light for a police bike. Did they only use it for motorcades or something?

My first bike was very nearly a KZ1000. A guy up the road buys old bikes that need some TLC, fixes them up, and sells them. He had one for sale when I started shopping around but I didn't think I was ready for a liter bike. Got a GS450 instead.

Right before that they jumped the draw bridge.

Must be older than 1980, in "80" Kaw. used CV carbs. Couldn't you have negotiated the price a little?

7 comments before a wise crack ??? you guys are getting slow... :-)

Well, the guy that gave me this one also gave my son a freshly painted / restored 1983 GPz750.
Then we gave him a 2003 Jetta Turbo to commute with for a year to keep the miles of his new car... but I still think we got the better deal.

VIN sticker on head says mfg 4/77. Does that make it a 78 or a 77 model?

This.... funny, I was watching Blues Brother clips on YouTube last weekend.
Matawan is a small town so 12k might be legit. Cool bike. Cooler for free. Hopefully the title doesn’t become an issue.

KZ1000 police bike is one of those bikes I'd like to plate as an "Antique Motorcycle" here in Texas and keep in the garage. It's not something I'd ride enough to justify regular 60 dollar a year registration.

I'll be Jon, as I'm blonde. I work with a guy last-named "Estrada".
He is desperate for those "Estrada" glasses from the ebay commercial.

I work with a kid named Anthony Estrada. We tell everyone that he is Eric Estradas nephew.
