plastic fuel screen / tube came out of petcock, now very loose

This is on my 1978 KZ1000C- Police bike.

The plastic tube came out of the petcock... I know it will just pop out if I install valve without fixing it (it's one of those "thread on" types, not 2 bolts).

is there a trick? special glue? jam it with thin aluminum shim stock ( aka beer can ) ???

I don't know of any glue that will hold being immersed in gas. the only things I can think of is perhaps red loctite (I don't know if it is affected by gas) or possibly superglue (cyano acrylate) but I don't know how it would react to gas either but I do know it won't stick on a surface with any oily residue what so ever.

How about gas tank repair epoxy. We know it sticks to plastic & metal + gas won't bother it. Just a thought.

Thanks guys... I went with the aluminum shim.. I should have taken a pic, it worked better than expected.

I was gonna suggest heating it with a heat gun and sticking something round in there till it cooled. Expand it a bit for a snug fit again.

See this post, wherein I had the same problem and solved it with Teflon tape.

I saw that... I have much experience with teflon tape... I am not a fan. Glad it worked for you.

As an after thought... I probably should have removed the ink from the beer can before I sentenced it to a lifetime of soaking in gasoline. Oh well..
